Logan Square Hack Night
15 Aug - 06:30 PM
Chicago, United States
Logan Square Hack Night is a monthly civic engagement event to build, share & learn about civic tech in a local neibhorhood instead of downtown! Brought to you by Chi Hack Night.  What happens at a hack night? Every week, we have a 10-15 minute presentation by a government agency, non-profit, company or group who've made use of open data or built a civic technology application. The goal of these presentations is to showcase the different uses and opportunities, as well as challenges and successes in the civic technology movement. After the presentation, the format of the event is similar to that of a hackathon where breakout groups self-organize to work on civic apps, discuss policies and their implications, learn technical skills and network with a welcoming and diverse community at the intersection of technology and government. But I'm not a techie! That's ok! We encourage non-technical folks to pair up and learn from our community's designers and developers. We've seen time and time again, the best civic projects come from teams with a diverse background. Remember, there's much more to making a great app than just coding!

HR HACKATHON 2018 - Powered by DisruptHR Chicago

Or please contact us at disrupthrchi@gmail.com to inquire about additional sponsorship opportunities.   Overview DisruptHR Chicago is an information exchange designed to energize, inform and empower executives, business leaders, and professionals in the vast and important fields of Human Resources. We are about blowing up the norms to which we've fallen prey, innovating, and creating a more meaningful, rewarding, and engaging experience from this thing called work. The Event HR Hackathon - Powered by DisruptHR Chicago is our newest event format that we conceived based on feedback from our awesome community. The idea is to provide a forum for HR innovators to collaborate with a smaller number of peers by tackling a specific HR challenge in a design-thinking inspired “DisruptHR-style” way. Check out this DisruptHR Chicago video for a glimpse of how this all came together for our first challenge winner, Allie Temkin of Common Threads. And this is how it works: We asked the DisruptHR Chicago community to submit a challenge they want to have “hacked” by their peers. We then selected the winning submission based on a few simple criteria. And the lucky winner for this hackathon is… Edie Greenberg, Freelance Recruiter. The challenge she submitted: How might organizations better integrate flexible work models that benefit both, the employer and the worker (incl. part-time, freelance, full-time)?” At the event, we will gain more insights on the topic from Edie and a panel of experts. We will then roll up our sleeves and start ideating solutions. And, yes, we will have fun while we do this! The ticket price includes breakfast, incredible content, and awesome networking opportunities interspersed throughout the event. It was a year of a lot of work from a lot of really dedicated and passionate people informing themselves in community sessions, through online content to ultimately compete in our Civic Tech Challenge hackathon.  Participation from the sessions through the competition delivered the best examples of businesses that, if funded and developed, should be funded and developed.  On February 1st we announced the first six companies that will now go through accelerator curriculum to create tech-enabled businesses. We wouldn't be able to accomplish each of these modules without the support we receive from our corporate and civic partners. That's why we want to celebrate with some of our most important element of success, the people! Come ready to network, ask questions, and of course, learn more about Colony 5.  *Registration Required to Attend. Sponsored by Microsoft Chicago

                  Blockchain Dev with Spaceman Dev
                  28 Feb - 05:00 PM
                  Chicago, United States
Leading this workshop, Dev Bharel, is a Blockchain solution architect and ambassador, and serves as the Chicago Regional Ambassador for the Blockchain Education Network. He is  is a fourth year undergraduate student exploring his passion for Computer Science at Illinois Tech in Chicago. A hacker at heart, Dev loves participating in (and organizing) hackathons. His inspiration comes from finding other students who love to write code with real world applications. Dev got into blockchain in high school, when assigned to do a research paper, he chose the up and coming cryptocurrency at that time, Bitcoin. The more he read, the more questions he had, and the more he was drawn in by elegance of blockchains. Dev’s current projects include working on building a better blockchain developer ecosystem in Chicago by hosting a series of blockchain developer workshops on university campuses.  This workshop will be an introduction to smart contract writing. We’ll go over the basics of a smart contract and write a self-aware vending machine that can restock itself. BRING YOUR LAPTOP! PIZZA AND DRINKS WILL BE SUPPLIED!
