Chi Hack Night
  21 Aug - 06:00 PM
  Chicago, United States
The Chi Hack Night is a free, weekly event in Chicago to build, share and learn about civic tech and tools to create, support, or serve public good. Join us every Tuesday from 6-9:30pm on the 8th floor of the Merchandise Mart to hear from interesting speakers, learn from each other and work on civic projects. Non-techies are very welcome!RSVP is now required. Walk-ins will unfortunately not be allowed. What happens at a hack night? Every week, we have a 10-15 minute presentation by a government agency, non-profit, company or group who've made use of open data or built a civic technology application. The goal of these presentations is to showcase the different uses and opportunities, as well as challenges and successes in the civic technology movement. After the presentation, the format of the event is similar to that of a hackathon where breakout groups self-organize to work on civic apps, discuss policies and their implications, learn technical skills and network with a welcoming and diverse community at the intersection of technology and government.   But I'm not a techie! That's ok! We encourage non-technical folks to pair up and learn from our community's designers and developers. We've seen time and time again, the best civic projects come from teams with a diverse background. Remember, there's much more to making a great app than just coding.

          Hack & Tell
            21 Jul - 09:00 AM
            Milwaukee, United States
Hack & Tell is a hackathon that is actually a hackathon. There is no need for business models, customer validation, or extravagant pitches. The purpose of this hackathon is to hang out and team up with other developers and designers for the sake of making something. There will be time at the end of the event where you are free to show and tell everyone about the awesome thing that you built. You can build something for yourself or build something for other people. You can build something useful or build something not useful at all. The choice is all yours. All we want is for you to take this time and build something you've always wanted to build. You didn't even need to have any ideas of your own. There will be plenty of developers and ideas floating around that you can hack with. So are you going to come make cool things with us? Join other developers and designers for 8 hours of fun on Saturday, July 21st starting at 9am. Remaining 2018 Hack & Tell Dates:- October 13 For more info, go to http://www.rokkincat.com/hack-n-tell

HR HACKATHON 2018 - Powered by DisruptHR Chicago
                19 Jun - 08:30 AM
                Chicago, United States
NOTE: This event is intended primarily for internal HR and business practitioners. We have a LIMITED number of vendor tickets available. We kindly ask vendor partners (consultants, staffing agencies, HR tech providers, etc.) to purchase a vendor donation ticket. Or please contact us at disrupthrchi@gmail.com to inquire about additional sponsorship opportunities.   Overview DisruptHR Chicago is an information exchange designed to energize, inform and empower executives, business leaders, and professionals in the vast and important fields of Human Resources. We are about blowing up the norms to which we've fallen prey, innovating, and creating a more meaningful, rewarding, and engaging experience from this thing called work. The Event HR Hackathon - Powered by DisruptHR Chicago is our newest event format that we conceived based on feedback from our awesome community. The idea is to provide a forum for HR innovators to collaborate with a smaller number of peers by tackling a specific HR challenge in a design-thinking inspired “DisruptHR-style” way. Check out this DisruptHR Chicago video for a glimpse of how this all came together for our first challenge winner, Allie Temkin of Common Threads. And this is how it works: We asked the DisruptHR Chicago community to submit a challenge they want to have “hacked” by their peers. We then selected the winning submission based on a few simple criteria. And the lucky winner for this hackathon is… Edie Greenberg, Freelance Recruiter. The challenge she submitted: How might organizations better integrate flexible work models that benefit both, the employer and the worker (incl. part-time, freelance, full-time)?” At the event, we will gain more insights on the topic from Edie and a panel of experts. We will then roll up our sleeves and start ideating solutions. And, yes, we will have fun while we do this! The ticket price includes breakfast, incredible content, and awesome networking opportunities interspersed throughout the event. The Agenda 8:30 – 9:00 am: Doors Open, Registration, Networking & Breakfast 9:00 – 9:10 am: Welcome by DisruptHR Chicago Board 9:10 – 9:30 am: Insights Panel (moderated by DisruptHR Chicago Co-Founder Nancy Harris) Kelly Burlage, Global Director Talent Acquisition at Livingston International Rick Bowman, CTO at Shiftgig Megan McCann, Co-Founder at ARA Mentors & CEO at McCann Partners Edie Greenberg, Freelance Recruiter 9:30 – 10:10 am: Table Break-out Ideation (facilitated by DisruptHR Chicago President Nicole Dessain) 10:10 – 10:20 am: Table Groups Present Their Posters 10:20 – 10:30 am: Reflection, Next Steps, Closing Thank you for being a supporter of the DisruptHR Chicago initiative - it's an important one, and it's more powerful now that you're part of it.
