Hawaii Annual Code Challenge 2017 - Kickoff Event
    26 Aug - 09:00 AM
    Honolulu, United States
** Space is limited! ** Register today to secure your seat and participant benefits, including bento lunch and HACC t-shirt. Gov. David Y. Ige and the Office of Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) will host the Hawaii Annual Code Challenge (HACC) in Honolulu from Aug. 26 to Sept. 23, 2017, with a kickoff event on Saturday, Aug. 26, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the East West Center, Imin Conference Center, Keoni Hall. Doors will open at 9 a.m. for participants and viewers to network and get settled before the ceremony commences at 10 a.m. Presented in partnership with local nonprofit Hawaii Open Data, the month-long event is being held to engage the local tech community in the modernization of Hawaii state government. A first of its kind for the state, this 2nd annual HACC is based on the concept of a hackathon, a problem-solving event that brings together creative individuals over a set duration. Hackathons serve a variety of purposes, from exploring a new technology or programming language to encouraging economic growth through technology development, and they are often sponsored by companies, nonprofit groups, and other organizations. But rather than the traditional around-the-clock development over a single day or weekend, HACC will offer an extended period for development over one month. The kickoff event will include team formation, foundational training, and workshops. In addition, participants will select from a list of challenges themed around key problems facing the state, and then work over the next several weeks to develop their solutions. The expanded month-long timeframe is meant to encourage sustainable solutions that are appropriately matched with technologies and platforms in use or being considered by the state. Participants will return on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017 to present their solutions for judging and winner selection.

Inspiring the Next Gen of Female Leaders - Hackathon Session
      22 Jun - 05:00 PM
      Honolulu, United States
In the United States, women represent less than 50% of the students graduating from accredited design programs in the US.  The number of women who are AIA members, licensed architects and other engineering and construction industry leaders varies between 15% to 18% of the total.  While the exact percentages is in constant flux, the challenge of losing the large pool of architectural, engineering, and construction industry talent remains the constant.   The Missing 32% project was created to address these core issues affecting women and minorities in design and construction.  In May, 2015 during the AIA National Convention in Atlanta, the AIASF committee changed the name from The Missing 32% to Equity by Design to better reflect the goals of addressing equitable practice for those still in the profession and to expand the outreach of this project. We are holding a Hackathon to come up with one mission and one task which will result in one BIG achievement for our group for this year !! This event is only possible through donors and sponsors !! Please consider donating !! What is a Hackathon? A hackathon (also known as a hack day, hackfest or codefest) is a design sprint-like event in which computer programmers and others involved in software development, including graphic designers, interface designers, project managers, and others, often including subject-matter-experts, collaborate intensively on softwareprojects. Some hackathons are intended simply for educational or social purposes, although in many cases the goal is to create usable software. Hackathons tend to have a specific focus, which can include the programming language used, the operating system, an application, an API, or the subject and the demographic group of the programmers.  For our design group, we will be translating this technology based session into a brainstorming one with smaller groups with their pens and pads coming up with one problem we would like to tackle and then coming up with a tangible solution we can implement as a group during this year.  Come with your thinking caps and leave inspired to work alongside other leaders in our industry to make it a better place for women in construction/design/engineering.   Details After signing up for this session, we will be emailing everyone an agenda for that evening a few days prior to the event.  As time is super limited, we want to be as efficient as possible in coming up with problems and solutions.  Light pupus and hosted drinks will be available that evening.  Everyone is highly recommended to park at the municipal parking lots nearby.  Please add a note to the organizer when registering if parking directions are requested. **Email organizer if you would like to become a sponsor This event is only possible through donors and sponsors !! Please consider donating !! FAQs Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? 21 and over.  Unless you are bringing your kids.   What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? Parking is available at the University Center garage, 828 Fort Street Mall until 830pm with entrance on Queen Street. Some street parking is available.  Also parking is available across at Aloha Tower Marketplace.  In the uncovered lot.  How can I contact the organizer with any questions? Please add a note to your registration and we will get back to you.   What's the refund policy? Please consider passing your ticket to a friend that may benefit from attending this event.  If need be, email us to find out how to get a full refund on your donation and/or ticket.   Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? Yes, please print and bring to the event.  Or show it to us via your mobile device.   Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable? It is transferrable to another.   Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends? That is fine.  We do not restrict it to only person listed on ticket.
