Houston Inventors is proud to present the PowerUp Houston Hackathon this year at the Mini Maker Faire. The theme will be sustainability to further our efforts as a society in conserving energy and water. Both hardware and software projects are allowed, and the venue will provide access to Rapid Prototyping equipment like 3D printers. Participation is limited to highschool and college students only.

If you're interested in how technology can help provide justice to those who truly need it, then sign up to participate in the Tech for Justice Legal Justice Hackathon. You'll collaborate wth like-minded individuals to conceive technology solutions to improve legal justice processes for: »Low-income individuals who need legal support. »Legal Aid offices that aim to provide free legal help. »Legal Advocates who aim to find new ways to support these communities.

All women in technology—from astronauts to designers to biohackers to makers to everyone in between—collaborate to share ideas, support each other and grow the tech community. For this second edition of The Hacker Society Hackathon for Women in Tech: Houston (WIT:H), the goal is to finish the website and related project ideas for the group, meeting new folks and talking about other ways to get involved. All levels and areas of expertise—and genders—welcome!

Women experience a variety of challenges throughout their careers—whether it’s setting goals, managing work-life balance or returning to the workforce as a new mother. The most important part is learning how to successfully maneuver these challenges. Join ABI.Houston along with the women of PROS for a panel discussion on the issues and find solutions to meet the challenges of everyday work life.

Want to help Women in Tech: Houston reach out to women techies? The Hacker Society is teaming with WIT:H to build a cool website for tech ladies in Houston -- and requests your help! The site is to provide information on local women in tech groups, upcoming events, and educational opportunities. You can help make it amazing by writing content, designing, and/or coding. Work with like-minded people to bring all women in technology — from astronauts to designers to biohackers to makers to everyone in between — together to share ideas, support each other and grow the Houston tech community.

ProtoHack wants to provide non-coders with the tools, knowledge and connections to bring their idea to life through the creation of a real prototype. No coding will be required. No coding is required. Instead you will use prototyping tools, drag and drop editors, mockups, wireframes and anything else you can think of to visually demo your idea on stage to a panel of judges to get feedback.

UNT Sustainability Hackathon will give students the power to affect real change towards a more sustainable campus.  The We Mean Green Fund has partnered with Innovation Greenhouse to host a hackathon the weekend prior to Earth Day 2016.  Students will work to solve important issues of campus sustainability related to water conservation, energy conservation, biodiversity, alternative transportation, air quality, carbon footprint, and other issues of environmental concern. All projects will have the opportunity to submit a complete proposal to the We Mean Green Fund, and can have their vision of a sustainable campus brought to reality!  Participants will have access to experts in the sustainability field, and thought-provoking lectures will be held. Leave your mark at UNT, reduce UNT’s impact on the environment, and gain valuable experience in project leadership as you collaborate to hack UNT’s sustainability!
