Stave Programming League, Presented by SPARK Students from all around San Diego County will be participating in this third annual programming league event.  Thanks to the generous sponsorship by Stave, this event is free of charge!  Space is limited to 12 teams, so sign up today! The league kicks off on Saturday, July 8 from 1 - 3 PM where students will build the foundation of the game.  The league is 6 weeks long and will conclude with a tournament on Saturday, August 19 from 9 AM to 2 PM.  Teams of 2-4 students ages 8 and up create a game, demo it, and code in a 1 hour Hackathon! Are you ready to get your fingers on the pulse of a city and unleash your innovation with ubiquitous real-time data?  Earlier this year, the City of San Diego announced the world’s largest Internet of Things platform deployment to help the City improve community safety, reduce parking gridlock, recognize pedestrian patterns, and provide greater situational awareness, all while helping the City, businesses, and citizens enhance everyday life through insights and solutions built with real-time sensor data. Using Current, powered by GE’s CityIQ™, 3,200 intelligent nodes are being placed on streetlights throughout the City. As a participant in the Smart Cities San Diego Hackathon, you will not only compete for $3,500 in total prize money, you will also be one of the first developers to leverage and build Industrial Internet of Things applications powered by the Predix platform. Participants also get free access to CityIQ’s real-world datasets, Intelligent Cities APIs, engineering support, and developer resources during the hackathon. The Women’s Hackathon @ CSUSM is a bi-annual, 12-hour event that is open to high school girls and college women with varying background in computing technology. The term “hack” is used in the sense of exploratory programming, not its alternate meaning as unauthorized security breach to a computer system. Each event presents two challenges of local impact and asks student teams to propose and create computing technology solutions in the form of web-based or mobile applications. Students may come as a team or individuals interested in working with others at the event. Tech professionals serve as mentors and guide participants through the process of research, design, and development of their solutions. At the end of the event, teams present their solutions to judges from industry who in turn determine winners. Since its inaugural event in April 2014, the Hackathon has served over 250 young women from over 25 high schools and colleges in Southern California. No. Creating effective computing technology solutions require talents from a diverse background. What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? This group inspires, encourages and supports Jewish innovation in San Diego.  FEBRUARY WORKSHOP: We talked about the importance of piloting last month, we'll workshop as a group several of our own Lab project founders ideas for pilots and answer their questions, challenge them with recommendations.  Volunteer to be our first Pitch RoundTable participants.email Jennie@startup18.org if you want to present your pilot idea at this meeting or the next. We will take up to 3 and allocate 15 minutes each to you. In addition, we'll talk about Covenant Foundation, Hadassah and new Natan Grants.  Deadlines for Covenant Foundation and Hadassah are Feb. 10 and 21 respectively.  New Natan Grants for projects dealing with Hate, Russian community programs and Books are in March. We'll talk about the nuances of each and answer questions you have about the Foundations and their focus and past grantees. WHAT:  A workshop for Jewish or Israeli project founders to help you launch a project to enrich Jewish life in San Diego or a public benefit nonprofit of any kind. Learn how to pilot your project, find funding, and increase your impact.  Get going and launch your idea this year! WHO: Jewish and/or Israeli project founders, pro bono coaches and/or donors.  WHY GET INVOLVED?  Meet other project founders dedicated to personal growth, improving our communities, and enriching Jewish life in San Diego. Pro bono coaches engage with members in the Jewish community leveraging your strengths, skills and experience.  Donors hear about innovative work that needs further nurturing and be a part of building a stronger and more engaged Jewish San Diego.
