    Comedy Night at Galvanize
    09 Aug - 07:00 PM
    Denver, United States
Given the current state of well... many things... we decided we needed a laugh. Galvanize is SO excited to welcome three amazing Denver comics to our Golden Triangle campus to provide a night of hilarity.  A few things to note:  1.) Ticket sales are going to the local chapter of Women Who Code! 2.) Galvanize GT has a great bar, so this won't be some weird dry comedy night (unless its dry humor) 3.) Comedians will be around during the evening to shake hands and kiss babies Featured Comedians: Jared Ewy Looking like the lovechild of George Costanza and Mr. Clean, comedy has come easy for the Colorado native and local tech marketing guy. He's hosted countless events at Galvanize, namely the Hack the Dot hackathons that have crowned many Galvanize student a champion of the lesser known short-form hacking underworld.  >check Jared out here Rachel Weeks Rachel Weeks is a Denver-based comedian and writer from the western suburbs of Chicago. Holochain Hackathon: Denver!
      13 Jul - 06:00 PM
      Denver, United States
Build a distributed app prototype in a weekend! Familiarize yourself with a new coding paradigm and learn tools for the rapid development of decentralized applications. Holochain is a post-blockchain protocol for storing data in a completely peer-2-peer network. Join co-founder Arthur Brock, our Denver Internship Program, and members of the Holochain team for a weekend workshop on using the technology. Friday, July 13th 6:00PM—9:00PM  Saturday, July 14th 10:00AM—9:00PM  Sunday, July 15th 11:00AM—6:00PM  Note 1: Friday's session is free and open to the public. Please arrive between 5:30 and 5:45 pm. Your registration helps us plan appropriately. Note 2: Tickets required for Saturday & Sunday - the fee helps us cover snack and lunches for the event. Thanks for your support!  Are you interested in building decentralised applications? Imagine a world where everyone can interact with no central power in the middle. Imagine a world where we can build a local and global sharing economy (cars, homes, tools, learning...), where everyone can play and contribute to the decisions, where we can build sustainable currencies, with no central authority that may sooner or later dictate the rules. Just imagine a world where we can design thriving economies. This world will run on distributed apps, or dApps. Open source, completely distributed, dApps allow direct peer-to-peer interactions and have incredible evolutionary capacities. Holochain enables a distributed web with user autonomy built directly into its architecture and protocols. Data allows the remembering of our lived and shared experiences. Distributing the storage and processing of that data will change how we coordinate and interact. With digital integration under user control, Holochain liberates our lives from corporate control over our choices and information. Prior to the Event, Check Out Our Developer Documentation: https://github.com/holochain/holochain-proto https://developer.holochain.org/ And review our web site: http://holo.host   Hackathon Structure Project co-founder Arthur Brock will introduce people to building in the Holochain framework. We encourage people to come with distributed app ideas. Experience with either JavaScript or Lisp will be helpful, but not mandatory. Information on how to prepare for the Hackathon will be provided in advance to ticket holders. The Friday evening session will include an introduction to the technology from Arthur with an inital Q&A. This session is free and open to the public.  Saturday and Sunday attendees will experience short educational sessions alternating with unstructured time for learning and collaboration with the goal of building an app prototype. Location, Food & Parking The Commons on Champa is the host of the weekend. Please note that parking is not included in the ticket price. Hack the Dot Galvanize Platte
            17 Apr - 06:00 PM
            Denver, United States
A Hack the Dot is a two-hour hackathon where coding school students, junior developers, experienced developers, non developers, marketers, designers, and those with little or no computer programming skill come together to build ideas around a single domain name. Our events are meant to be a quick and fun way to build a humorous (and functional) product quickly while meeting people in your tech/startup community. There will be pizza. And beer. and soda. What to Bring / How to Prepare: • Bring your laptop and charger. Not required but suggested for you coder types: • Install the Atom text editor. Go here: https://atom.io/ • Setup a github.com account How does it work? Step 1: Attendees are broken up into random teams. Step 2: The teams are provided with the same undisclosed domain name by Name.com, arbitrary and often hilarious. Step 3: Teams have just two hours to come up with a functioning site inspired by that domain. The team builds the most creative and fun idea for the domain wins. Participants will be judged on four criteria: (1) functionality, (2) design, (3) humor, and (4) creative domain name interpretation. What do you get at the event? FOOD! SWAG! FRIENDS! How much does it cost? It’s FREE! Questions? Send them to HacktheDot at name.com.
