Seattle Legal Tech - 3rd Annual 21st Century Lawyer CLE (3 CLE Pending)
12 Dec - 02:00 PM
Seattle, United States
We are back with our third annual (3rd, THIRD people!) 21st Century Lawyer Seattle Legal Tech CLE. This year, we're bringing back some popular speakers and, and, AND this year you'll get credit for building tech! That's right, we're going to do a mini-hackathon right in the middle of the CLE. And you'll get credit for it. But don't get intimidated! We're using tools that anyone can quickly and easily learn to use.  Event is sponsored in part by Seattle University School of Law. Thanks SU!  Here's the full program (with some additional detail coming soon): Meet the hackers! Back by popular demand - but better than last year too - Wendy Knox Everette and Brendan O'Connor (with a possible third special guest to join) will blow your minds on data privacy, security, and everything you ever needed to know about hackers. GDP . . . What?  Join us for the fastest and best primer on what GDPR is and why you should care. Local attorney and GDPR expert Deserae Abed-Rabbo Weitmann is going to lay some serious GDPR knowledge on us. Get ready. QnA Markup Hackathon Then, we hack. Using David Colarusso's QnA Markup Tool participants (that's you!) will build interactive Q and A tools to answer a legal question. We'll all vote on a winner. Oh, and we're bringing Tom Martin from LawDroid in Vancouver BC to oversee the hacking mania. And don't be intimidated! If you know how to type and can follow some simple directions you can learn to use QnA Markup in just a few minutes.   A2J Tech Next, we'll talk access to justice and technology with access advocate and tech rockstar Sart Rowe. Cutting Edge Legal Service Models Finally Dan Lear and Jordan Couch will talk about how innovators are, can, and should build new, ethically compliant, business models to collaborate with others outside of legal to build cutting edge legal service delivery models to transform the legal landscape. We're being hosted and sponsored by the gracious folks at Seattle University School of Law. And proceeds will go to the Seattle Legal Tech Microgrant Innovation Program - more coming on that next year.  Meantime, these tickets will go fast so grab yours now and join us to get CLE credit while you get your mind blown. Brought to you by Seattle Legal Tech and Seattle University School of Law

Hack the Now & Next: The Future of Media
      16 Nov - 07:00 PM
      Seattle, United States
We are not the media consumers we once were. Not only do we listen to, read, and watch content in ways that we never have before, but we demand more from it. We want to experience it, we want to interact with it. We want to participate—on our own terms and on our own time. Commercial brands and content publishers have taken notice, and have begun building new ways of connecting with us. From AR/VR to OTT to podcasting, content creators now reach their audiences across a number of devices and platforms. And for the first time, they have access to detailed, targeted data to see how engaged we really are. Our evolving demands, coupled with creators’ unprecedented use of emerging technologies, are changing the very nature of media production, distribution, and consumption. Join us as we Hack the Future of Media and discover how technology can further reshape the way audiences experience the stories and sounds they love. Spend the weekend with fellow innovators at Globant’s Hack the Now & Next Hackathon: Future of Media Edition. We’ll have Globant technologists on hand to help guide you along the way. Team up with a few friends—or meet new ones—to build something cool! 2018 TCAT Holiday Toy Hack
        11 Nov - 09:00 AM
        Seattle, United States
The Taskar Center for Accessible Technology, in partnership with the Husky ADAPT student organization, invites you to participate in the 2018 Holiday Toy Hack! At the TCAT Holiday Toy Hackathon, volunteers modify store-bought toys to create switch-accessible toys. TCAT will ship those toys to recipients who require switch-access toys and, like everyone, will enjoy and learn from play! 2018 will be our largest event yet, with greater numbers of volunteers and toys we gift. Join us! If you would like to request a toy, please CLICK HERE TO MAKE A TOY REQUEST. If you would like to volunteer, please read on. Why toy adaptation? Off-the-shelf toys are often inaccessible to kids with motor limitations or developmental disabilities because they require some force or dexterity to activate. Switch adaptation allows new opportunities for active participation and meaningful play interactions by slightly modifying the electronics of a toy to accept different kinds of switches.About the Toy Hack on Nov 11th, 2018: join us for four hours of toy adaptation: 9am-1pm. Your volunteer efforts will make this holiday more inclusive while you exercise your skills in toy adaptation (a little soldering, some toy tinkering and lots of heart!). Please sign up to reserve your spot as the event fills up and we are space-limited. Please note: Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate minors as volunteers in the MakerSpace. Volunteers under 18 will not be able to use the soldering equipment, but can still help with gift wrapping and cards. Would you like to help but cannot make it to the event? Please consider sponsoring a toy with a $50 tax-deductible donation: CLICK HERE TO SPONSOR A TOY (indicate in the comment if you'd like your donation to go to a toy for a particular child). IOT & Security Blockchain Hackathon #T-LabsHACK @Create33 in Seattle
          27 Oct - 08:30 AM
          Seattle, United States
Hello Fellow hackers!  The Blockchain Society together with Telekom Innovation Laboratories (T- Labs) presents the #T-LabsHACK! T-Labs is the research and innovation unit of Deutsche Telekom, mother company of T-Mobile US. Learn more about T-Labs: https://laboratories.telekom.com/ What is the #T-LabsHACK you may ask? Well, with the increasing popularity of blockchain technology in the industry today, there comes a desire to always be ahead of the curve; with this event, we will bring you up to speed on some of the hottest tech to hit the blockchain space, which you can then use directly in your Hackathon projects to win great prizes! A Learnathon will be included with a workshop that will introduce hashstaX. To learn more about hashstaX check out this article. The hackathon will be held at Create33 which is a startup hub, where budding entrepreneurs can learn from mentors and network with peers. It’s the brainchild of Madrona Venture Group, one of the largest venture capital firms in the Pacific Northwest. There will be over $5000 in prizes! See more details on DevPost. Teams We suggest teams of no more than 6 individuals. You can organize teams prior to the event, and we will be sending around a teams signup form on the day of the Hackathon. Rules We know some rules are meant to be broken, but you should probably (read: definitely) stick by these: 1. Fresh Code - We all start coding at the same time. It’s cool to work on designs beforehand, digital mockups, open source frameworks, and anything else available to everyone, but keep things within fair limits. 2. Code Review - Winning teams may be subject to a code-review at some point following the event or immediately before winning. This is to ensure that all code used is in fact fresh. 3. Ownership and IP - You own your IP and whatever you create. Simple as that. 4. Team Size - No more than five people. 5. Submissions - More info at the event. You’ll receive an email with instructions on how to do just that. 6. Demos - You’ll have 10 minutes to demo the functionality of your project and talk through your idea, and 1 minute for Q&A from judges. Judging How is the hackathon judged?Projects will be judged based on the following criteria: Technical Deployment - 25% Consumer Centric - 25% Usefulness - 25% Innovation - 25% Judges Include: Alexander Renz has been involved in the Internet of Things (IoT) since its humble beginnings at the MIT Auto-ID Center, where Kevin Ashton coined the term in 1999. He is interested in exploring applications and new business models in IoT and the machine-to-machine economy. He is interested in applications across industries, even though his focus over the last few years has been on the future of mobility including connected and autonomous vehicles, shared and electric mobility as well as urban mobility and smart cities. Alex is an advisor to the IOTA foundation, a next generation blockchainless architecture based on a Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) that promises infinite scalability and zero transaction fees. Precia Carraway started as an entrepreneur in her late teens, continuing to explore and deploy disruptive innovations in emerging technology verticals. Her mechanical engineering training allowed her to wear many hats: software architect, system engineering, product management and general Swiss army knife deploying domestic and EMEA market smart-home, -city, -car product lines. Her previous position crossed B2C, B2B, B2G vehicle OEM strategic alliances and partnership collaborations. These days you can find her in the autonomous vehicle or drone space, watching the market, placing technology bets, nurturing networks, and speaking to the community at large, encouraging investments in frontier technologies. To break out of her echo chamber, you can find her leading Habitat for Humanity volunteers, riding mountain bikes or sailing the deep blue seas any given weekend. Seattle GiveCamp 2018
            26 Oct - 06:00 PM
            Redmond, United States
Seattle GiveCamp is a hackathon for good where tech volunteers create software for nonprofit organizations in the Seattle area. The software solutions will likely include web sites, desktop apps, databases, or other pieces of software that need to be coded, designed, updated, or configured. We anticipate creating solutions for about 10-15 needy nonprofits this year.  We will have a need for programmers, web developers, graphic designers, database admins, and project managers. You do not have to have to be an expert to be a tech volunteer. Of course, if you are an expert in one or more disciplines, that's fantastic. All you really need is some technical experience/education and a desire to help. Seattle GiveCamp is asking technical volunteers to pay a $15 fee to secure a place at this year's GiveCamp. In return, we will provide a place to code/design/create, lots of free food & drink, networking opportunities, a snazzy t-shirt, and a surprise gift or two.  In case you are wondering, the $15 fee will be distributed to the nonprofits that we will be helping at the event since our sponsors will be covering the cost of the event itself. Schedule Friday, Oct 26, 5pm-11pm (we will be serving dinner) Saturday, Oct 27, 8am-11pm (we will serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks) Sunday, Oct 28, 8am-6pm (we will be serving breakast, lunch, and snacks) Note: Unlike some past years, we will be ending at 11pm on Friday and Saturday. There is no sleep over option.
