The Boston Area Sustainability Group (BASG) is excited to continue our fall event series with a focus on clean energy and renewables. Our co-host this month is The CleanTech Open, a not-for-profit organization that runs the world's largest accelerator for cleantech startups. Interest and investment in this industry continues to grow globally and there are numerous initiatives in the US and our own back yard to explore together. With our guest speakers, we will discuss where the different types of renewable energy are in their evolution, outstanding barriers to scaling implementation and adoption, the regulatory environment, the innovative approaches of companies and organizations leading the way to a cleaner future, and what we can each do as consumers and professionals. Our speakers will be: Tom Kinneman, VP & Chief Operating Office, North Shore InnoVentures NSIV is a non-profit, public/private partnership, focused on turning breakthrough technologies into thriving businesses. As part of the senior leadership team, Tom’s responsibilities include establishing and managing facilities for the Cleantech InnoVenture Center and the Biotech Innoventure Center. He is also an advisor for selected portfolio companies. Mark Vasu, Executive Vice President, Greentown Labs As Executive Vice President, Mark Vasu leads and supports revenue-generating activities that sustain and grow Greentown Labs. This includes managing corporate sponsors, partnerships and overseeing the member pipeline. He leads the effort to build the brand, visibility and partnerships. He also consults to and supports a national network of cleantech incubators, helping to build the ecosystem given Greentown Labs’ position as the nation’s largest clean tech incubator. Prior to Greentown Labs, Mark was the founder of perCent Inc., a software company focused on reducing personal energy use and spending. He also founded and led CMV Marketing, a marketing and sustainable strategy-consulting firm for social-purpose companies and high-performing social enterprises. He served in marketing and business development leadership roles for three high growth social enterprises: City Year, ChildrenFirst (acquired by Bright Horizons), and Jumpstart. Mark was on the founding steering committee, co-chair, and ran the Boston Cleanweb Hackathon (2012, 2013, 2014).     The TVnext Hack is a one-of-a-kind event, influencing and inspired by TVnext—Hill Holliday Group’s annual conference exploring the future of television. Hosted several weeks prior to TVnext, the hackathon brings products and developers together to build the future of television. This year’s event will be focused on the devices and platforms that are powering innovation in television. Developers will be integrating various technologies using those platforms and devices. At the conclusion of the event, 5 winners will be chosen to showcase their innovations at TVnext on October 26th, and compete for the grand prize of $2,500.

Hack Cancer 2015 DevPost ___________________________________________________________________________________ More Detailed Details: Hack Cancer Boston is focused on developing innovative new technologies to solve diagnostic issues related to cancer care. This specific event will involve the development of prototypes, software, and ideas at the event by the participants. The event is aimed towards the research community at large – including students, clinicians and public health practitioners from academia, and industry - to engage a multidisciplinary audience to develop creative healthcare solutions. Participants will spend 24 hours together working and building, researching and discussing new technologies with experts and innovators. The event addresses the prototyping, training and clinical needs assessment aims of the Center for Future Technologies in Cancer Care. Specifically, participants will take a current issue in cancer care that needs to be addressed and then provided with time, space, and equipment to develop prototypes to address these healthcare issues. Participants will work in a team environment to encourage interdisciplinary learning and training. A week following the event, teams that have developed the most promising, creative, and suitable solution to a cancer care problem will be rewarded with a prize and given the option to further develop their ideas in the Prototyping Alpha Core with the support of the CFTCC. However, if there are people showing up as individuals, teams can be formed at the event.   What kind of materials will be provided?   There will be a wide range of materials and equipments provided. This will include equipment such as a 3-D printer, electronics kits, batteries, glue, screwdrivers. We will have almost everything to get you started! This year it will be at EPIC which will allow you to have access to large machinery as well!     Are there specific topics for the hackathon?   There will be topics presented by the speakers on the day of the event, but you are welcome to develop and work on ideas that you have come up with on your own. The only requirement is that the topics are cancer care related.   Do all prototypes and ideas need to be generated at the event?   Ideas can be generated prior to the event. However, any prototype development (building of the device, programming of the software, etc) CAN'T occur prior to the event. We want to maintain this rule to be fair to everyone who is participating.   Can we bring our own materials?   Yes! You are welcome to bring your own materials (webcams, kinects, cardboard, tape, small equipment, etc). Also, on the day of the event teams are more then welcome to leave to the venue to purchase more items. Will there be computers provided? Unfortunately not, please be sure to bring any electronics you would like to use/test. This includes laptops, smart phones, etc. Remember, there will be a large amount of people attending so be sure to keep an eye on all valuables!             The Hacking Arts Conference is designed to inspire innovation in the creative arts by bringing together creatives, technologists, entrepreneurs and engineers. The Conference lineup features eight world class panels on the following disciplines: Design, Fashion, Film/Video, Gaming, Music, Performing Arts, Virtual Reality, and Visual Arts.
