The Sports Innovation Challenge Presented by Georgia Tech Athletics
03 Nov - 12:00 PM
Atlanta, United States
The challenge It's impossible to not get caught up in the excitement of Atlanta's sports scene.  With six professional sports franchises, high-performing collegiate teams, and top-notch venues - it's thrilling to build technology sports solutions here. Georgia Tech Athletics presents a free 24-hour hackathon in partnership with Your Ideas Are Terrible focused on innovation in sports and athletics. While open to any sports or athletics-related idea, three main focus areas include -  Athletic performance - wearables, data collection, performance analytics, optimization, injury prevention, apparel, equipment, talent evaluation Fan engagement - in-game engagement, deepen relationships/segmentation, communications, sales Operations - ticketing, game-day operations, parking, security, concessions, managing crowds entering and leaving the stadium, venue management Georgia Tech Athletics has a few specific challenges to consider tackeling -  GT Athletics Student Awards Program: GT students currently do not have a loyalty and rewards program for attending and supporting GT Athletic events. An app could keep sporting events top of mind and reward students for attendance and support. Example: http://superfanu.com Recruiting - Build a platform to find and evaluate talent based on GT needs. Subject matter experts (GT faculty, GT football recruiting, recruiting companies) will be invited to share insights to help you come up with a workable product to help GT recruit the best and brightest student-athletes. Softball Scouting Report – With GT Softball team support, pull publically available game play-by-play score sheet data to auto-build an opponent scouting report. GT Softball currently does this but it is a manual and laborious process and does not capitalize on data analytics. The event will feature free food, prize bundles full of tech goodies, appearances from professional players and coaches, and a chance to meet with Management Teams to potentially enter into a POC agreement with one or more sports organizations. Register here on eventbrite and on DevPost too - https://gtsportschallenge.devpost.com/ What is a Hackathon? A hackathon is a building sprint where teams of students and community members build new products or hack at an existing problem in 24-hours. The event engages design, development, and marketing talent, hears their ideas, prioritizes solutions, and prototypes/experiments to discover if the solutions work. Participants pitch final projects at the end of 24-hours to a panel of school and community leadership in hopes of winning prize bundles full of tech goodies, a chance to meet with management teams after the event to learn more about what it takes to pilot commercially, and one GT student will land a spot in CREATE-X's Startup Launch program. Who should participate? This event is open to both students and members of the Atlanta community. Engineers, developers, designers and anyone with experience or interest in sports and athletics are invited to attend. What's in it for you? Build cool stuff in an awesome venue Eat, drink and be merry. All sustenance will be provided. Meet important people in the Atlanta professional sports industry. Garner interest from pro teams to move your concept forward and/or enter into a possible pilot agreement. Keep what you build. If you building something of interest to Georgia Tech Athletics or one of the sponsoring professional sports organizations, you may be offered a contract to continue building your project and potentially run a pilot. All we ask for is right of first refusal. Prizes One winning team with at least one GT student will be guaranteed a spot in CREATE-X’s 2018 Startup Launch program, which includes $20,000 in seed investment, $50,000 in deferred legal assistance, 24/7 access to CREATE-X collaborative workspace, 27 weeks of coaching, and access to a network of 50+ mentors from the industry. 1st place - VIP Experience at an Atlanta professional sporting event in 2018 + a prize bundle of tech goodies including Fitbit charge 3s, GoPro Fusions, Muhdo genetic profiling and fitness plan, a Technogym WELLNESS RACK, Apple AirPods, Sonos speakers, a PH550 MINIBEAM PROJECTOR, and mentoring with GT Athletics if your team continues building your project after the event. 2nd place - Tickets to an Atlanta professional sporting event + a prize bundle of tech goodies including some (but not all) of the stuff listed in the First Place package, and mentoring with GT Athletics if your team continues building your project after the event. Atlanta Medication Hackathon
      19 Oct - 06:00 PM
      Atlanta, United States
Hackathons are a design sprint-like event in which computer programmers and others involved in software development, including graphic designers, interface designers, project managers, and others, often including subject-matter-experts, collaborate intensively on software projects. The Atlanta Medical Hackathon brings business, technology, and medical professionals together to solve problems within the medical industry by combining the knowledge base of different specialties in an innovative environment. The inaugural Atlanta Medical Hackathon is meant to bring medical professionals into the normal hackathon flow. By bringing in medical professionals (and students) to the hackathon, it allows for subject matter experts and possible end users to have direct input and work in the solution creation process. Challenges: Navigating Healthcare Patients have great difficulty knowing where to get the care they need at the right time.  Part of the challenge comes with having an incredibly complex health care delivery system.  To help patients, create new tools to improve patients navigate through the health care system and obtain access to community-based care, wellness programs, and other ancillary services that support individuals improve their health.  Transparency in Healthcare  Transparency, whether cost, data, or anything else, has been a great issue in health care.  Without information patients cannot make the right decisions on treatments, doctors, or labs/imaging amongst a long list of other things such as wait times.  Tackle problems in data transparency to allow for patients to discover what medical information is around them (providers, insurance acceptance, pricing, wait times, etc.). Solutions should consider open access and HIPPA compliance. Accessible Healthcare  Patients need to be supported by tools that will educate and empower them to make the right lifestyle choices and help them stick to their treatment plans.  They get some information from their physicians or other sources but a single source would dispel a lot of mixed messages and help patients follow suit with decisions that support a health life.  Create a solution that allow patients to make better health decisions allowing for self-management of disease and condition and to know when to contact their medical provider.  Think creatively on how to change patients' thinking from "The doctor will see you now" to “The patient will see you now”  Medical Imaging  Create innovative solutions using imaging technologies and data analytics to provide better patient care. Transitioning to Adult Care Changing doctors is never easy. When you’re a teenager new to advocating for your own health care, or one who has a chronic illness like diabetes or cystic fibrosis, it can be even more challenging to make the transition. Create new tools to assist pediatricians, family physicians, and internists to support all adolescents, including those with special health care needs, as they transition to an adult model of health care.
