Kinetech Arts’ (SF Weekly’s “Best Genre-Defying Sci-Artistic Collaborative” of 2014) annual Dance Hack Day is a non-profit event that brings together performers and developers to inspire one another and experiment with emerging technologies.   Combining a traditional hackathon with a dance lab, Dance Hack Day fosters cross-disciplinary partnerships and sparks unconventional projects. Participants will create original performances that fuse movement with cutting-edge technologies. Workshops will be offered throughout the day. At night, you’ll have an opportunity to present the results of your experiments to an audience and prizes will be awarded. Last year, Kinetech worked with the New Eccentrics and Codame to bring together tech innovators like Tessel and Hack Reactor and arts leaders Counter Pulse and Central Market Now.   Join us for the TeenTechSF Civic Hackathon @TheMixatSFPL   Saturday Nov 14, 8:30 am - 6:00pm AND Sunday Nov 15, 9:00am - 5:00pm   TeenTechSF is excited to partner with The Mix at SFPL for our first ever TeenTechSF Civic Hackathon on November 14th and 15th!   "TECH FOR SOCIAL IMPACT" 2 days, 17 hours, 150 teens generating thousands of ideas for tech solutions to civic problems!   Like all our events, the TeenTechSF Civic Hackathon is free, beginner-friendly, and open to all Bay Area teens. New hackers are encouraged to participate. We'll have a special award category for first-time hackers! Mentors will be available to help students turn their ideas into reality using the cool, digital resources available at The Mix for coding projects, app creation, website building, video editing, sound recording, access to an interactive wall for collaborating and a 3-D printer for prototyping! Calling all socially conscious analysts, statisticians, data scientists, coders, hackers, designers, and eager-to-learn do-gooders! A DataDive is a weekend-long, marathon-style events where teams of volunteers rally together to help social change organizations do initial data analysis, exploration, and prototyping. Tickets are open to volunteers of all skill levels. We’re excited to be partnering with 3 amazing organizations: Community Technology Alliance (CTA), San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center (SFCAPC), and Skoll Global Threats. These presentations can be single or group work, but they can be no longer than 10 minutes each.  We want to give everyone a chance to speak, and get people out at a reasonable time. FAQs Unlike a hackathon, the goal is not (necessarily) to create an app.  Instead it is to work with teams of experts to understand a truly difficult problem through data.  You could end up with a visualization, an analysis, some graphs, or even just some new datasets by the end of the event, and all of those are fantastic results! We do not assign you to a problem.  We want you to work with the problem and data you feel most passionate about, so come Friday with an open mind and be ready to learn. You do not have to stay the entire weekend to participate in the event.  We hope that you will find a project you can dig into, but you are always welcome to come and go as you please. You do not have to work on the same project for the whole weekend.  Again, we hope that you will find a project to work on to completion, but if at any point you feel like you want to change simply let the ambassador from those teams know. We do not provide any hardware or software for you to use.  We'll have the data and some services set up (wiki, DropBox, Github), but otherwise you should bring your own laptop and come ready to use whatever data tools you like.
