        Web AR Hackathon
          01 Jun - 09:30 AM
          San Francisco, United States
ABOUT Have you or your audiences been experiencing Mobile Augmented Reality App Fatigue? Are you looking for an alternative to pointing people to their app store where they must download an app for every object or place that could be discovered or revealed in more depth and with engaging AR experiences? Are you one of the millions of content or experience creators who seeks to provide greater value and share you or your company’s knowledge, data or instructions in context in the most intuitive and lightweight manner with the lowest possible friction and without losing control? Have you been envisaging ways to combine digital assets from multiple sources into a single, easy to manage, coherent window overlaying the real world? The answer is coming We are at the cusp of a new era in which a standards-compliant web browser will replace the need for (or be complementary to) native AR apps as they are being published today. A web browser is all that will be needed for the delivery of fully interactive, rich and rewarding AR experiences to users holding a variety of AR display devices. What are we waiting for? Between now and when AR will be just as natural for users as 2D text on a page is today, Web developers will learn how to author experiences (for use in the real world that will include 3D) and AR developers will learn/get used to designing experiences for audiences who use only a Web browser as their AR experience viewer. Wait no more Everyone who wants or needs to get a jump start on this exciting frontier of our digital era should participate in the first Web-based AR Hackathon June 1-2 in San Francisco California.During this hackathon, creators of all levels will form teams and collaborate on making AR experiences which can be viewed in these browsers.

Instructional Hackathon & Innovation Jam: Design Accessibility Training (Part 1&2)
              07 May - 06:00 PM
              San Francisco, United States
The Bay Area Learning Design & Technology MeetUp is back with our Innovation Jam event! Join a team to design and pitch ideas to a panel of judges for the chance to win a prize! For this back-to-back event, we task you to awe us with your insight and creativity. Participants will team up and work together to convert drab and dry content into an engaging and successful learning experience. This can come to life in many forms, such as a gamified learning structure, a blended learning environment, a self-paced elearning, or even something as simple as a job aid. The theme is accessibility training. People who design and build goods or services — whether a website, app, physical product, or physical space — need training in how to make their experience accessible to everyone. What kind of innovative learning solutions can you brainstorm to help this learner audience achieve the goal of creating with accessibility in mind? This is a great opportunity to add something robust to your portfolio, foster connections, and get your name and work in front of leaders in the industry. This is a two-part event:* Day 1 - TUE, MAY 7: We'll form teams, give you a scenario prompt, and provide you with time and space to brainstorm ideas. Teams are encouraged to meet on their own time during the following week to continue developing their design & pitch. RSVP for the first night here.* Day 2 - MON, MAY 13: Teams will finalize their pitches and present their design and any prototypes to the judges. At the end of Day 2 we ask that you to present your ideas to attendees and a panel of industry experts who will be scoring each group’s solution based on the following criteria:· Engagement (how much does it draw in the learner?)· Effectiveness (how likely will it solve the problem?)· Scalability (high touch point with low operational cost)· Success metrics (how success will be measured?) RSVP for the second night here. Please join us either as a participant for both nights, or as an audience member for the demos on the second night. Food and drinks provided.Let us know if you have any questions.------------------------------------More Details1) What You'll Bring: Laptops, laptop chargers, and any design tools that you use for presentations, learning, design, or technology. All participants are welcome to use any form of media to present their ideas and prototypes, as long as they can present with it within a 5 min pitch.2) What We'll Bring: We will provide teams with their own table space, plenty of electrical outlets, access to closed meeting rooms, whiteboards, markers, and post-its. At the end, teams will have an opportunity to use our projector screen to present. We also prepared the course content for you, so you only have to concentrate on delivery.3) Teams: As you register at the door, we'll ask you to associate yourself with either:Design - (media, elearning, UI, etc.,)Training - (coaching, mentoring, etc.,)Content - (curriculum dev, SME, technical writing, etc.,)Operations - (LMS, needs assessment, consulting, etc.,)Teams will be comprised with a mix of each. No worries if you do not identify with just one these; this is just a way to make sure everyone has a well-balanced team.4) Presentations will be 8 mins long, and we will not be allowing the use of slides (powerpoint). We are looking for an interactive pitch to get us excited about your ideas.

                San Ramon Hackathon 2019
                  28 Apr - 08:30 AM
                  San Ramon, United States
                  First: $1,000. Second: $750. Third: $500
Check out Prizes and Rules, Schedule, and FAQ on our website Why the San Ramon Hackathon? Located in the Bay Area, San Ramon is surrounded by people working in the tech industry. Why not host hackathons to bring them together to solve the city’s challenges? Their creativity and experience can help build apps, products, and ideas that benefit the community! With the enthusiastic support from the Mayor’s office, the inaugural San Ramon Hackathon in 2018 was a huge success!  For 2019, Green Apple Education Foundation has partnered with the San Ramon Valley Unified School District to host the 2nd annual San Ramon Hackathon. The event is open to all in the Bay Area. Bring your brilliant and innovative ideas and help solve the challenge described below! The Challenge: Student Well-being Schools are the places where students get educated, find friends, and enjoy their social lives. But schools are also places where students can suffer physical or mental problems. Smoking, vaping, and in some places harder drugs, have become epidemic in high schools, as declared by the U.S. Surgeon General in December 2018! Anxiety and depression caused by peer pressure, parent pressure, and self pressure are more common now than a decade ago. Suicide rates have risen along with them. The state of prominent issues like bullying and violence continues to deteriorate. In extreme scenarios, students have lost their precious young lives to gun violence! Each Hackathon participant should reflect on his or her own experience and choose the problem they would like to solve passionately. Examples of questions that technology (including Apps, Mobile phones, Maps, Messaging, IoT devices, Social Networks, VR, etc) can help to tackle include, but are not limited to: How do we educate students and parents about the harms of vaping and drugs, and prevent them from becoming addicted for life? How can we detect and report the use or dealing of vaping and drugs in schools? With so much pressure from class work, grades, their peers and parents, how can we help student manage anxiety? How do we educate teachers and parents so they can detect and help sooner? Bullying can happen on campus or on social networks. It's a huge safety concern. How to educate on, detect, and report bullying so it is stopped at the earliest possible moment? How to detect early signs of suicidal behavior in students and help avoid the tragedy? Depressed students bring safety concerns to schools. How to detect signs of violent intention and report it to prevent it from happening? Emergency preparedness: how to prepare and respond to disasters (natural or man-made), and help each other in the situation? Prizes First: $1,000. Second: $750. Third: $500 Note: Winners have opportunities to continue work with the city and school district on their submissions post the Hackathon. Additional prizes and honorable mentions to be determined prior to or during the event.
