Sunday, December 6th 2:00PM - the hack ends 3:30PM - doors open for the mixer 4:00PM - presentations begin 6:00PM - the mixer ends Hack Info Do you love fashion, technology and startups? Wearables, advanced materials, e-commerce, data science, biometrics and tech-infused avant-garde couture are all part of a wave of innovation that will revolutionize the $1.2T global fashion industry. Come get on the ground floor. GRID110, the Standard Hotel and the LA UX Meetup are joining forces to host one of the coolest Hackathons you'll ever see. Hackers will spend the night at the iconic DTLA hotel to come up with a FashionTech wearables prototype. Teams of 4 will present their prototype to a killer panel of judges, and the top teams will walk away with some amazing prizes! We're looking for fashion designers, programmers, engineers and industry market specialists. Unlike other Hacks, teams will not only mock up a Minimally Viable Product (MVP), but explain how their idea will penetrate and dominate the market. Presentations will begin at 4pm on December 6th during the cocktail mixer where Hackers can show their prototype, meet other cool techies and unwind after a crazy night. Sign up and let's get you on a team! Judges Carinda Bourgeois (Regional Director, Keiretsu Forum) Amanda Coolong (Worldwide Women's Initiatives, IBM Cloud Ecosystem Development) David Dea (Founding Partner, PurCraft and Professor, FIDM) Nick Gaige (Casting Director, previously casted for Season 7 of Shark Tank) Dori Howard (Founder, Wade & Belle) Mike Macadaan (Founder, This Is Ground & Co-Founder, Science) Noel Saw (Head, LA UX Meetup) Jason White (VP Marketing, Beats By Dre) Things To Remember • We will be building prototype mock-ups, NOT actual products. Hack Teams can present schematics, blueprints, websites, 3D mock-ups, slide presentations, etc. All Hack Teams will present their work on a simple website or presentation platform that will be screened to the audience during the Mixer at the end of the Hackathon. • Hack Teams of 3-4 will be decided by GRID110/Standard Hotel. The point of the Hackathon is to inspire community and team-building in the DTLA FashionTech community. Interested Hackers can sign up according to their interests and skill sets. GRID110 will alert attendees of their Team leading up to the event. • This is a Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT) event. Hackers are asked to bring their own laptops, hard drives, software, cloud storage, etc. The Standard Hotel will provide basics such as electricity, snacks, A/V equipment for presentations and other event amenities. GRID110/Standard Hotel will not be responsible for any lost, stolen or broken equipment, so it's important to safeguard your valuables. • Hack Teams can bring in materials to mock-up a real prototype, provided such a mock-up does not require hazardous materials or fabrication, or any activity that would reasonably be considered disruptive or dangerous in a public hotel. Furthermore, such a mock-up will not give Hack Teams a special advantage in judging. • Hack Teams will be required to present their mock-up during the judging portion of the Mixer. Teams will be asked questions about design, construction, materials, production viability, market viability, business plans and so on. Judges will decide the winners of the Hackathon at their sole discretion. • There will be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for Hack teams. All prizes are gifted at the sole discretion of GRID110/Standard Hotel and are subject to change. • There will be a strict code of conduct during the Hackathon. Abusive, sexually explicit, bullying, discriminatory, hateful or otherwise unfriendly behavior toward fellow Hackers, judges, organizers or others' property will not be tolerated. Any attendees who display such behavior will be asked to leave, and their Attendance Fee will not be refunded. • By signing up for the Hackathon, and paying the Attendance Fee, you consent to the above. ProtoHack - The Code Free Hackathon For Designers & Business People - Los Angeles, CA
    21 Nov - 09:30 AM
    Pasadena, United States
ProtoHack exists to show non-coders that they can create something amazing from nothing. We empower and enable the non-technical community with the tools, knowledge and connections that will help bring their idea to life and visually communicate it through prototyping. How does it work? No coding is required. Instead you will use prototyping tools, drag and drop editors, mockups, wireframes and anything else you can think of to VISUALLY demo your idea on stage. (We’ve put together the best tools for non-coders, so don’t fret if you’ve never prototyped.) Although we encourage you to try some prototyping tools prior to attending ProtoHack, we will begin ProtoHack with optional educational workshops on how to use some of the top prototyping tools. You can choose to prototype alone or form a team with other participants and decide on an idea together. Teams can be up to 5 people. You will have 9 hours to produce a prototype. (Remember, you are creating a lean prototype of your idea and it doesn't need to be perfect. The focus should be on visually showing what the idea is.) At the end, you or your team will present on stage to a panel of judges consisting of developers and investors to get feedback. Looking for the Agenda? Click here Interested in speaking at ProtoHack? Are you a non-technical founder or entrepreneur?  Learn more about ProtoHack and how to become our Los Angeles Keynote speaker by emailing us at info@protohack.org. ProtoHack is a 501(c)(3) and cannot pay their speakers.  What's in it for me?   ProtoHack will be a 12-hour experience where you will build a prototype that communicates an idea visually. Learn how to effectively use industry leading tools to put together a prototype and visually communicate your idea. Meet other like-minded people with various backgrounds in design, business, marketing, product management and more who are all excited and passionate about building something.  Become a better product person with a deeper understanding of UX. Exclusive access to over $200 in prototyping tools and sponsor related goodies. We will also invite developers who are looking for new projects, to come and watch the presentations so they have a no-pressure opportunity to contact you if they’re interested in helping you actually code your prototype.    Learn more about ProtoHack by visiting our website.

DataKind & Teradata DataDive in Anaheim!
              16 Oct - 02:00 PM
              Anaheim , United States
Calling all socially conscious analysts, statisticians, data scientists, coders, hackers, designers, and eager-to-learn do-gooders - a DataDive is coming your way! To kick off Teradata's annual PARTNERS Conference, DataKind is hosting a 2-day DataDive on October 16th and 17th and we are looking for data do-gooders of all backgrounds to roll up their sleeves and work side by side with world-changing organizations to help use data to unravel tough questions and prototype new solutions. Collaborate and engage with some of the brightest minds in data science, social change and technology as you work in teams to analyze, visualize, and mashup fascinating data sets to create real world change.  We believe data has the power to change the world, but only when we all work together. Join us for a data adventure like you've never seen and get ready to make friends, build skills and help unleash the power of data to serve humanity! Where: Annaheim Marriot October 16 and 17 SCHEDULE: October 16 2pm – 10pm October 17 9am – 8pm Note:  You can attend one or both days. You do not need to be registered for the Teradata PARTNERS conference to participate. CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU ALL THERE! On Friday we all get together to first hear a bit from the organizations we'll be working with throughout the event and then we'll get to the data! DataDivers will choose which problems they'd like to work on and form teams around their individual questions. Each team will have a Data Ambassador assigned to them who will help advise on and manage the projects throughout the day. We'll have meals and keep the space open until 10PM for any late-night divers. CONTINUING ON SATURDAY We will be back for action Saturday morning to keep cranking on the work we started on Friday. In the afternoon we’ll put together some final presentations. This is your chance to show the world what you have done with data! This is the chance for our partner non-profits to better understand what your team did.   OTHER ITEMS OF NOTE FOR THE WEEKEND: Unlike a hack-a-thon, the goal is not (necessarily) to create an app. Instead it is to work with teams of experts to understand a truly difficult problem through data. You could end up with a visualization, an analysis, some graphs, or even just some new datasets by the end of the event, and all of those are fantastic results!   There is a Github repository setup to use for sharing code, data, and analyses during the event. This will be our primary resource for capturing everything developed at the DataDive, so please use it for sharing and collaboration.   We do not assign you to a problem. We want you to work with the problem and data you feel most passionate about, so come Friday with an open mind and be ready to learn.   You do not have to stay the entire weekend to participate in the event. We hope that you will find a project you can dig into, but you are always welcome to come and go as you please.

The West Virginia University Reed College of Media combines innovative curriculum with real-world, immersive experiences for journalism, strategic communications and media students. In all programs, students learn by doing, producing stories and hands-on projects using the latest digital media technology. The Hackathon is also sponsored by Mozilla OpenNews. OpenNews connects a global network of developers, journalists, makers and hackers to collaborate on innovative code and new ideas. We believe a community of peers working, learning and solving problems together can create the tools journalism needs to thrive on the open Web. Keep up with that community via our website Source. HOW THE HACKATHON WORKS From the students, faculty and pros assembled, we’ll create “dream teams” with a mix of necessary disciplines — content, design, technology and business — who will learn to work together in the crucible of the Hackathon. The weekend will be a combination of focused talks and training from innovation leaders and experts, work sessions and final presentations of solutions from each team. Faculty and industry experts will provide expertise to each team and help them rapidly develop their product or concept. Teams will envision, map and pitch a startup in immersive journalism and VR that can deliver a singular idea, product, service, or process to serve the public in journalism. Rather than be a traditional Hackathon focused on coding and building, this one will be about collaboration, team-building and entrepreneurship. HOST SCHOOL The Hackathon will be hosted by the USC Annenberg School of Journalism and Communication, bringing in female college students from the region and around the country to invent and envision their role and influence in an emerging technology market. The emerging market the Hackathon will focus on is immersive journalism and VR, and the event will include a crash course in virtual reality gear such as Oculus Rift and Google Cardboard. The program will take place in the new Wallis Annenberg Hall: WHO?
