Hello Tomorrow - Silicon Valley Hub Launch
24 Jan - 10:00 AM
Palo Alto, United States
Please join us for the launch of Hello Tomorrow's new hub in Silicon Valley! Hello Tomorrow is a global network of entrepreneurs, investors, academics, and researchers supporting innovation in deep technologies - those based on scientific discovery and engineering expertise.
We will meet at the legendary innovation engine, Xerox's PARC (Palo Alto Research Center) which has spawned some of the most important technologies we use today. Hearing from PARC's experts as well as others from NASA's CASIS, China's Pony.ai, the IndieBio accelerator, Genentech, Lux Capital, InnovationLab, and more, we will discuss the topics that everyone pursuing these technologies shares, such as:
funding long-term technology development
dealing with uncertain/changing regulatory frameworks
technology disrupting established industries and business models
hiring talent that understands both science and business
finding a site to grow a company that may have unusual equipment and space needs
understanding a complex global market landscape
Participants and speakers will span scales from quantum computing, to neural interfaces, to planetary hyperloops, but three main tracks will go deep into:
Mobility - a century of transportation innovation in one decade. In a century, we went from horseless carriages to electric vehicles, from sailing ships to nuclear subs, from first flight to spaceflight. Now electrification, autonomy, and new business models promise to redefine the transportation landscape as much in 10 years as we did in the last 100.Will these technologies change cities, commerce, and culture again at a similar pace?
Life science - evolving models for engineering life. Gene drives, CRISPR, synthetic biology... Not only are these new technologies expanding the toolkit for engineering life, they are spawning new models for conducting and commercializing research. What roles will traditional R&D, venture funding, crowdsourcing, hackathons and more play in the future? How will these new models accelerate discovery, change IP, and open markets?
Space - outer space in everyone’s reach. Space has always been the domain of government-level activities – until just now. Hordes of startups, students, and other actors are rushing into orbit. In the deeptech context, satellites and the space station are key to the future of mobility and biology. But the shifts in funding, regulation, and technology accessibility that all three face are similar. How can they help each other?
To wrap up the day, we will nosh and network surrounded by demonstrations of artificial creativity - AI entering music, visual arts, and even comedy, as we pit human expression against the machine in a preview of the world to come.
Confirmed speakers so far include Markus Larsson, PARC; Mark Bünger, Innovation Lab; Shruti Gandhi, Array Ventures; Peter Hebert, Lux Capital; Maryanna Saenko, Future Ventures; Hemai Parthasarathy, Breakout Labs; Swati Chaturvedi, Propel(x); Miki Sode, International Space Station (ISS) U.S. National Laboratory; Bruce Pittman, NASA Space Portal; Hugo Wagner, Airbus; Romy Seth, Ferghana Partners; Jessica Adomako, Genentech; John Cumbers, Synbiobeta; Jessica Ching, Open LOOP pancreas and open insulin; Jun Axup, IndieBio; Ann Cheng ; Hyundai CRADLE; Melody Li, Pony.ai; Nicholas Paul Brysiewicz, Long Now Foundation; Madelynn Martiniere, Uncomproimise; and Dhaya Lakshminarayanan, Dhaya Comedy.
Please join us in seeing and creating the future at PARC!

• TWO WORKSHOPS IN ONE AFTERNOON •
SESSION 1: Maxwell Method of Communication Impact Workshop
Have you ever wondered why people are wired a certain way? Just looking at the people in our lives whether it's our parents, brother, sister, relative, spouse, children, coworker, or boss, each one is unique with their own behaviors and personality traits. At times to a fault, we allow our lack of understanding and patience hold us back from effectively communicating and connecting especially to the people that matters to us most.
No one disputes that EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION is critical for any successful enterprise. Your ability to succeed in your personal and professional relationships are directly aligned to how well you communicate. The greater your skill, the farther you will take your career and develop quality relationships along the way.
Effective communication DEMANDS that we use the method that works best for those we are speaking to, not just the method that works for ourselves. Communication REQUIRES Connection.
In this workshop, you will learn simple and strategic techniques on understanding the four common personality types and unique styles of communication. In knowing your own preferred style of communicating and understanding how other people prefer to be communicated, you become empowered to create quality and meaningful relationships! You will also be able to improve your team's productivity and performance. From this learning experience you will:
Gain valuable insight into COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES to help you communicate with confidence and authenticity.
Learn how to determine the most appropriate COMMUNICATION APPROACH for each individual.
Discover key CHARACTERISTICS about each style and how to LEVERAGE YOUR STRENGTHS for better communication.
Identify EFFECTIVE METHODS for bridging communication gaps among your group or team.
"People aren't looking for perfection. They are looking for connection." ~ John C. Maxwell
SESSION 2: Communicating with Compassion
Compassion- the ability to notice challenges and meaningfully care for ourselves and those around us- is one of the most critical 'human' skills that we can cultivate. When we communicate with compassion at work, we enable people to show up as the best versions of themselves, deescalate conflict, create psychological safety and create balance.
Compassionate communication skills can provide great advantage in how you perform and are perceived as a leader and team player in your organization. The best part is the skills to communicate compassionately can be easily learnt and put into practice.
The objective of this workshop is not only to teach you the principles and tools of compassionate communication, but in a unique HACKATHON format, allow you to explore and co-create solutions in a fun, interactive way with other attendees. In this workshop you will learn:
Compassionate communication skills at work
Mindful communication
Dealing with non-compassion
Interactive communication hacking

FIGHT THE STATUS QUOA Chicago artist by the name of Kerry James Marshall donated a painting for auction to raise money for a museum. It sold for $700k. It then turned up on Christie's auction list and was valued at at up to $1.5 million at the time. It sold for $5 million. He saw no royalties from any of those sales.Fast fashion giant, Zara, often steals and blatantly creates exact copies of works from independent artists, including Tuesday Bassen, Maria Ines Gul, Mokuyobi, and more.Just recently, 7.8 millions user accounts for the mobile browser game, Town of Salem, were hacked. And there's the classic story of the young man, Shawn Fanning, of Napster who ruined it for musicians the world over by scaling the peer-to-peer trade of music over the internet. As artists and consumers of digital assets, today we get effed the world over. The effing's got to stop.
