RideAustin Data Analysis Hackathon

The introduction of rideshare options in Austin has lowered drunk driving rates and produced new jobs, but what else do we know about rideshares? Galvanize, data.world, and RideAustin have teamed up to bring the data to YOU.
Join us for a 6 hour hackathon using a RideAustin dataset (to be released on data.world one day before the hackathon). Teams will be assigned, and each team can either create their own question to answer or use a sample question provided at the event.
Get Published & Win Prizes
Data discoveries will be published on data.world. Also prizes will be given to winners of three categories:
Best question: Given to the team who attempts to tackle the most interesting question.
Best answer: Given to the team who successfully answers their question in the most convincing way.
Best visualization: Given to the team which the most compelling and informative visualization.

Pre-requisites (what the audience should know to get the most value)
Anyone who can program in (most) any language, although teams using Python or R usually are most successful. Experts are very welcome too! Anyone who wants to learn more data science techniques or practice their techniques.
New to Coding & Hackathons?
Fear not! We will be offering tutorials on-site. You can hop into a classroom, learn the basics, then jump right into the hackathon!

About the panelists:
Founder of Millennial leadership development company Me2Lead, Rachel Brownlow Lund teaches ambitious Millennials how to leverage mentorships, sponsors, peer-to-peer accountability partnerships and masterminds to radically up-level their personal and professional lives. She has helped dozens of Millennials establish and maintain successful mentorship relationships, which have resulted in lucrative career advancement opportunities, thousands of dollars in earned grant money, and key recommendations that moved the needle forward.
With experience as an RF design engineer, computer programmer and teacher, Debra Kallinikos now designs backpacks, handbags and bags for various uses in the pet industry and has launched an original line of children's backpacks under the brand name, Animal Packers. She's gone through the process of taking an original design from idea to design to prototype to documentation to manufacture to market.
As an entrepreneur, software engineer, front end developer, writer and speaker based in Austin, Texas, Sara Inés Calderón has written for a variety of publications, including TechCrunch and Vice, as well as several Texas newspapers, and currently runs her own software company, Tercera. She serves as Director and Evangelist for Women Who Code Austin and co-founded the Austin Diversity Hackathon.

Liz Deering is a social entrepreneur, designer, brand-builder and community-advocate. She is the Founder of Haven, and the Co-Founder of The Un.Incubator. Ever wonder what the difference is between a UI designer and a Web Developer? Do you know the skill sets you will need to make a mobile app? Where do writers fit in?
Join us at the Google Fiber Space for Hackathon Tech + Tools: everything you need to know the rubies and snakes and everything in between. With the hackathon around the corner, we know that it can be daunting to decipher what you need on the day of, and sometimes, you might not know until you see it. Our workshop will be your chance to see into the future. We will provide you with helpful tools, skills, and capitvating people to create a successful project. (Crystal ball not included.)
If you're a Project Champion, take note that you can take advantage of this workshop to close the loop on any loose ends for your project and get the assistance you need to be ready to submit by May 19th.
