OpenACC User Group Kick-off Meeting

Fernanda Foertter (ORNL), Guido Juckeland (HZDR, Germany) and Sunita Chandrasekaran (UDEL) in coordination with OpenACC President, Duncan Poole are creating an OpenACC User Group.  We will have our first kick-off meeting at Salt Lake City during SC16.     This is a hackathon for teachers to learn and explore with technology, as well as network with other educators, makers, and industry representatives. You will explore computer science by designing and creating tech projects and discuss issues surrounding making and computer science, including curriculum design, software and equipment. The first day of the conference we will offer a guided exploration of several current topics in tech education, including coding, robotics, making, Arduinos, Raspberry Pis, MakeyMakeys, 3D printing, app development, wearable electronics, circuits, soldering, and basic woodworking. The second day of the conference we will put what you have learned into design and construct a tech project of your choosing. We will also have experts on hand to help you through the process!

    Join the DevMountain Hackathon for and exciting event and get your first taste of the hacker lifestyle. DevMountain Hackathons are open to the public development community, and DevMountain students/alumni/faculty. It is a unique experience combining junior, mid, and experienced developers to create a truly one of a kind community. There will be activities, food, code, drinks, prizes, awards, giveaways and a local artist graffiting a mural throughout the night! For the students there will be mentors and instructors on hand and on call to help students make great progress on their specific DevMountain course projects. For all alumni and other coders who want to participate there won't be access to mentors/instructors provided and no assigned projects or groups. They can just come along, join the nice atmosphere and work on your personal project.

Approximately 100 participants will form teams and compete for sizeable cash and non-cash prizes, invaluable mentorship opportunities, key meetings with industry decision-makers, and a demo spot at a major court technology conference.           Welcome to the DevMountain quarterly Hackathon! Our Hackathons are crazy, exciting, exhausting, and awesome events where our DevMountain students get the first taste of the hacker lifestyle. DevMountain Hackathons are open to the public development community, and DevMountain students/alumni/faculty. It is a unique experience combining junior, mid, and experienced developers to create a truly one of a kind community. We invite one and all to come hack at DevMountain's SLC location all night! Through out the night we are going to have activities, food, code, energy drinks, prizes, awards, and giveaways. There will be alot going on, including a local artist graffiting a mural throughout the night! Dinner will be provided by (TBA), and snacks, drinks, and goodies will be available to all in attendance through out the night/morning.  Students Students attending the Hackathon will be working on their specific DevMountain course projects. There will be mentors and instructors on hand and on call to help students make great progress on their projects. Many students make more progress during the Hackathon than over the course of a few days or even a week of normal class time. Alumni/Others All alumni or other coders who want to participate are welcome to come. They won't have access to mentors/instructors like the students will, but we'll provide a fun atmosphere to come and code. There are no assigned projects or groups. Come work on your personal project, bring your team, or create a new crew at the event. Anything is possible. All developers are invited to come and code along side other like-minded hackers.
