ThinkThank (n. \ˈthiŋkˈthaŋk\):  A collaborative network focused on solving social-sector challenges by connecting professionals that help realize ideas and solutions that create impact. Non-profit and social enterprises have a myriad of problems: Scaling, operations, marketing, technology, the list goes on. Yet, there are many altruistic professionals in the private sector want to find a way to give that uses their skills and engage directly with the causes they believe in.  ThinkThank envisions a world where “giving” is redefined. Where the toughest challenges facing the social sector are tackled, the brightest ideas implemented, and their stories of impact shared with the world. By curating hackathon-esque events, this medium provides the collaborative space for these professionals to provide much needed insight to social-sector organizations. We collaborate at events, but also are building an ongoing network of people, resources, and opportunities to help these groups.  Sponsored by Executive Path*  The structure of this event is: Social Enterprises and nonprofits explain a problem they are facing or pitch an idea they are trying to implement. We group them with peers doing work in those areas, and assign the best moderators and do-gooder professionals. The Cardinal Game Jam is our one and only game jam event. Think of it as a hackathon focused on game development. Come make games, learn how to make games, or play games!   Our goal is to bring together people with all kinds of backgrounds to contribute to game development and creativity. It is an opportunity to push boundaries and collaborate on a fast-paced challenge.  Anyone is welcome to attend. Just bring your computer, toothbrush, and enthusiasm! Teams should consist of between 1 and 6 participants.  Participation We encourage you to plan your game in advance. Before the game jam, you can: pre-install software on your laptop; setup infrastructure (hosting, DNS, SSL, empty github repo, etc.); design a logo and create a color scheme; create wireframes, mockups, and user flows; and write documentation for your proposed design Art/Audio Assets may be created in advance of the event. All code, outside of public libraries and development tools/platforms available to all participants attending the game jam, should be completed during The Cardinal Game Jam. Please don't start coding before noon on November 14.   On-site participants may stay for the entire time or leave and return as convenient.   Electricity, Internet, and space will be provided. Calling all socially conscious analysts, statisticians, data scientists, coders, hackers, designers, and eager-to-learn do-gooders! A DataDive is a weekend-long, marathon-style events where teams of volunteers rally together to help social change organizations do initial data analysis, exploration, and prototyping. Tickets are open to volunteers of all skill levels. We’re excited to be partnering with 3 amazing organizations: Community Technology Alliance (CTA), San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center (SFCAPC), and Skoll Global Threats. This is your chance to show the world what you have done with data!  There is no expectation of slides or other presentation materials, simply use whatever method of conveying your work to the organizations you feel is best.  This is also the chance for our partner NGOs to better understand what your team did. These presentations can be single or group work, but they can be no longer than 10 minutes each.  We want to give everyone a chance to speak, and get people out at a reasonable time. FAQs Unlike a hackathon, the goal is not (necessarily) to create an app.  Instead it is to work with teams of experts to understand a truly difficult problem through data.  You could end up with a visualization, an analysis, some graphs, or even just some new datasets by the end of the event, and all of those are fantastic results! We do not assign you to a problem.  We want you to work with the problem and data you feel most passionate about, so come Friday with an open mind and be ready to learn. You do not have to stay the entire weekend to participate in the event.  We hope that you will find a project you can dig into, but you are always welcome to come and go as you please. You do not have to work on the same project for the whole weekend.  Again, we hope that you will find a project to work on to completion, but if at any point you feel like you want to change simply let the ambassador from those teams know. We do not provide any hardware or software for you to use.  We'll have the data and some services set up (wiki, DropBox, Github), but otherwise you should bring your own laptop and come ready to use whatever data tools you like. It is a pleasure to invite you to H2O World 2015, Nov 9-11th at the Computer History Museum. H2O World is our annual gathering of the community, creators, users and customers - A culmination of 250+ meetups in the past year. We'd love to have you in the audience.   This 3-day gathering with first day of a data hack-a-thons and training session where data scientists, developers, and to best utilize machine learning. Day 2 and 3 feature speakers from all walks of our community: users, makers, developers, customers and investors talking about their experiences, as well as panels  discussing practical data science for competitions.
