This special IoT focused Mobile App Hackathon, an event produced by the AT&T Developer Program, is designed for attendees interested in hacking production or protyping hardware. So join us as we hack hardware, build apps/mobile apps, get fed, compete for prizes across different categories and most importantly: meet new people and scout for teammates to work on new or current projects. We will have experts from AT&T, IBM, and the local community onsite to assist with your development.

Event Schedule. The following is a list of the weekend's agenda:
Day 1
6PM - Kickoff event with dinner, networking, and developer dating which leads into idea pitches and team formation.
7PM - Speakers present (please see below for list)
8PM - Pitch ideas and form teams
Day 2
10AM - The fun continues with breakfast served in the morning! Work with the teams from Day 1 to complete the app spec’d. Senseis will be available throughout the entire day to help you code up your solution. App submissions will be accepted throughout the day with a deadline of 6PM.
1PM - Lunch is Served
6PM - Pencils down. Please sign up your teams to present at the link provided onsite. Pitches start promptly at 6PM and are limited to three (3) minutes per team. No powerpoints unless you are only presenting an idea.

Speakers
Ben Nelson, Sr. Product Marketing Manager at AT&T, is based out of sunny Seattle! His passion is educating developers young and old about mobile application development best practices through events like hackathons that fuse the collective interests of multiple technologies and business leaders.
Joe Bossalini, is a product development engineer working for AT&T. His team is currently involved with designing and building AT&T M2X, a cloud-based fully managed data storage service for network connected machine-to-machine (M2M) devices. He has experience in a wide range of application enablement activities, including product design, software development, hardware configuration and maintenance, and customer experience.
Marek Sadowski is an IBM MobileFirst developer advocate, IoT & robotics expert and an entrepreneur. Being a graduate from the International Space University Marek pioneered in a research on an VR goggles for the photorealistic virtual reality system to control robots on Mars in NASA Ames in 1999. On a European national TV channel Marek hosted a first season of the educational program "Why this?". As a vice president of the Polish Astronautics Society he organized 7 national robotics competition for high school students.
Andrew Moll is a technical evangelist for Microsoft working on development and data storage within Azure. In a past life, he was a consultant helping customers figure out how to visualize and discover meaningful conclusions from their disparate data sets. Outside of technology, his favorite discussion topics include: picking the next million-dollar stock, the current snow conditions in Tahoe (yes, even in the summer), and finding the best coffee/food in the bay!

Track 1: Existing Apps: If you have an existing SaaS small business app, build an innovative integration with the QuickBooks platform to make your app even more powerful and useful than before.
Track 2: New Apps: Create a solution to a real problem faced by small businesses while leveraging the QuickBooks platform. This brand new app will integrate with QuickBooks Online and address a real world customer pain point.
Track 3: Solutions for Non-Profits: For existing or new apps, create a solution to a real problem faced by non-profits by leveraging the QuickBooks platform. Add QuickBooks platform functionality to your existing SaaS app, or build a brand new app that leverages the QuickBooks platform. Either way, your solution addresses a real pain point for non-profits.
Grand Prize: A Grand Prize will be awarded to the best overall winner. The Grand Prize winner cannot also be a track winner.

Fresh Code Rule: All code developed as part of the QuickBooks Connect Hackathon must be FRESH–that’s how we keep these things fair. Before the start of the QuickBooks Connect Hackathon, developers can create wireframes, designs and user flows. They can also come with hardware. But to keep things fair, all code must be written onsite at the QuickBooks Connect Hackathon. Other than that, almost anything goes and you can use any coding languages or open-source libraries you’d like.
IP Ownership: Participants will own the rights to their work.
Code Review: Winning teams may be subject to a code-review usually following the event or immediately after demos.
Team Size: Teams of up to 5 humans are allowed. You can also add 1 cyborg, Furby, drone, or Sphero. Teams may be created at the event, or prior to the event on hackathon.io.
Submissions: Projects must be submitted to Hackathon.io, which projects should be submitted on.
DEMO your hack: You must demo your hack in order to present. Don’t be scared if you didn’t finish… it’s okay long as you tried your best. You will have a maximum of 3 minutes to demo, 2 minutes for judges’ Q&A.

Join the VetsinTech Hackathon @Facebook - one of our most popular annual events!!
In this full-day event the VetsinTech and Facebook community will come together to support our returning veterans. Teams of approximately 5-10 people will be formed with a variety of skills -the vets can have the idea, help with business plan, marketing or just sit in to audit/participate for educational purposes – coding skills are NOT required. Chosen mentors from the tech community will come together (and to code) and recognize to the unique perspective our returning veterans have to offer.
What is it: The VetsinTech hackathon @ Facebook is a full day business and app development competition. The event’s goal is to invite returning veterans to be part of a team focused on building successful startups around the next generation social, mobile, gaming, ecommerce, health or other applications and to foster a community of (veteran) entrepreneurship. Our veterans can add a unique perspective to many of these types of applications. Registered idea generators are given 1 minute to pitch an app concept to a tech audience on day one. Attending veterans, engineers, designers, marketing and business people as well as our team of glorious mentors pre-select the best ideas that will be developed into applications during the day. Teams are formed around the most promising projects and the competition begins.
What to expect: Expect to find the complimentary skills that help you to connect in the tech community. Be open, share your ideas and don’t hold back – “Ideas without actions are usually called dreams” Expect to meet super talented and inspiring people, to work under time pressure, and to dedicate the whole day! The EdTech Design-A-Thon is a hack-a-thon for designers with clear creative visions and an understanding of online course platforms. Are you able to easily connect to the user experience? Send your portfolio now and be among the top 15 selected to join!
Participants can work alone or form teams. Prizes in the amounts of $1500, $1000, and $500 will be awarded to the top 3 designs.
Unlimited meals and drinks will be provided, and mentors will be at the event to help bring your ideas to life. Selected participants will present their final designs to a panel of judges from GSV, UX Design World, and BeNative.

Presentation
Participants must give a 3-5 minute presentation on stage to showcase their design. Having excellent speaking skills and a professionally-made slideshow will be extremely important in awarding the winning designs. Please note that all presentations will be filmed and recorded for use on BeNative's educational platform.

FAQs
Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
You must be 21 or over and have a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
What else should I bring?
You must bring your own laptop and any other equipment necessary.
Do I need to have experience or any other skills?
You should have either a background or experience in design. It's a plus if you have experience or passion in education and languages. As mentioned previously, all participants must send examples of their portfolio to melissa@smatoos.com. Anyone who registers without sending the necessary information will not be invited to attend.
Are there any other requirements?
You need to be a fluent English speaker. We will give higher priority to native English speakers, as one of the purposes of this event is to record presentations from native English speakers. A phone call interview may be necessary to determine acceptance to the event.
Can I bring guests with me?
Unfortunately, no. As we have limited space, only participants will be allowed entrance.
Is there parking available?
Yes, we have free parking available at the event.

Friday (Opening):

7:00-7:15pm Panel/Judge: intro and overview of IoT disruptive innovation and how to capture it during your startup product launch?
7:15-7:45pm Team Leader/Founder/Developer as solo or as a Team "2mn Verbal Pitch" (developer must have experience in Mobile, Web, or Wearables): Describe the Problem, your Innovative Solution, Target Market and "three steps use case: how it works".
7:45-8:00pm Selected Team formation (Judge select participant and match incomplete team with any of the missing role (Developer, UI/UX, Growth Hacker based on available volunteer). Selected team would continue hacking together remotely (no need for overnight stay, but can use during day time on saturday and sunday our partner office space located next to Stanford "see your confirmation email for detailed instruction).
Example of Work to be completed during hackathon:
a) - Team have a very complex solution to a very large market and cannot create an MVP in two days (in this case work together to complete a compelling pitch deck by sunday 6pm) and submit/add it to you application
b) - Team have a very simple solution to common problem and can create an MVP in two days (in this case work together to complete your minimum viable product by sunday 6pm).and submit/add it to you application
Virtual Hackathon Start 9pm Friday and end Sunday 6pm: all completed pitch or link to MVP (stored in your cloud account) must be submitted using same application link above (simply update your application by sunday 6pm). Support would be provided via email during the entire hackathon, simply use a same email in your ticket confirmation to contact us.
