We Connect the Dots' First Annual International Back-to-School Hackathon is taking place this January in schools around the globe! The info session is a chance for students, parents, community members and sponsors to find out how they can get involved and meet members of the We Connect the Dots team. Presentations will include how to fundraise to attend, what exciting content will be presented during the event, and what students will take away. The Hackathon will include lessons on coding in HTML5, using Microsoft's Azure Solutions Platform, and the role that technology skills will have in the future of the global job market. No coding experience is necessary! Industry professionals will be delivering important talks and instruction, and there are lots of great prizes available for teams with the best project. The info session is free to all. A question and answer session will follow a short presentation delivered by WCTD staff. Join us to learn all about how the Hackathon and how we are delivering access to technology for students around the world, starting right here on Long Island.

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
The info session is open to students, parents, community members and sponsors. There are no age limits for the info session. The Hackathon is open to students 13-18 years old.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
Penn Wood High School is reachable by public and private transportation. The school parking lot offers plenty of parking space to accomodate all attendees.
What can/can't I bring to the event?
Bring your questions and (if you are the note-taking type) a pad and pen. Nothing else will be needed. Flyers and informational materials will be provided.

Build a Mobile App with Meteor

Have you ever had a great idea for a mobile app, but thought you just didn’t have enough time to build it? With Meteor, you can build that mobile app in less time!
We are honored to co-host this Wine + Code with Meteor Philadelphia! Speaker Michael Ghobrial will show you how to start creating a mobile app using Meteor and Materialize CSS. Naturally, there will be a lot of questions, so he’ll spend some time answering those. Then, after a short break, we’ll all work on building a mobile app together.

2015 Villanova Engineering 24hr Android Hackathon

Are you a registered University student that knows his/her way around coding Android apps, has an idea for an awesome app, or you would like to learn how to develop an app with a team over a weekend? Then come join us at the 2015 Villanova University College of Engineering Android Hackathon for 24 hours of hacking fun, food, giveaways and prizes.
Please bring your student ID, your own laptop with your favorite Android IDE installed and if possible an Android device (smartphone, tablet, wearable, glass, kitchen appliance, etc) to help test and demo your awesome app.
If you have a killer idea for an app you can pitch it at the beginning of the event to gain interest from the other participants to form the ultimate app team.
After the event hang around and network with the sponsors and judges. The event is free for students and space is limited, so sign up fast!

This hackathon is being organized by Start It Up Delaware and it is for the benefit of the devs and designers who, for the past 4 years, sacrificed their time and effort to support non-technical individuals build and launch their startups. So, this time, we decided to throw a hackathon JUST for those devs and designers, and let them decide what they want to build.
Who can come? Devs (back-end and front-end) & Designers (graphic designers)
What are we going to do? Come, bring your laptop and a power cord (and extra power strip if you have one), and work on WHATEVER you want
We can work on anything? Really? YES. Really.
What about food? We'll have food for you. Dinner on Friday night, and breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday, and then breakfast and a late lunch on Sunday. We'll also have plenty of snacks, sodas, juice, and beer.
What's the agenda?
Friday Nov. 6th
Doors open at 5pm
5p - 6p: Hacky Hour (yeah, we know, it's super cheesy, but we'll have beers and food for you so that you can check in, eat, get situated, and meet other folks in the room)
6p: Kick -off (we'll say a few words to help everyone understand the goals of the weekend)
6:30p: Roundtable discussion of projects
7p-10p: Teams that want to form can form and begin working out priorities; everyone else can start hacking
10:30p: Clean up
11p: Doors close

HBCUHacks returns to Morgan State University!
Join us for this special hackathon designed for college students. Learn what it takes to build an app and build a prototype in a weekend in this fast paced hack competition.
Meet other students interested in tech and build something that you can put in your portfolio or keep working on after the hackathon.
Meet tech company recruiters and network with companies looking to hire for internships and full-time positions.
Who should attend this event? Any college student interested in learning about startups or thinking about starting a career in technology.
Do I have to know how to code? Being able to code does help. However, there are many other roles for students who want to be involved in this hackathon, such as designers, marketing, and creatives. If you don't know how to code, but are interested in learning, check out online tutorials like Codecademy.

IIIFification Hackathon 2015

Join a great team of developers to rapidly expand the amount of content available via the IIIF Image and Presentation APIs! Over three days (29 Sept - 1 Oct) in Philadelphia, we intend to:
Collect, review and improve existing shims that make systems compatible
Implement as many new shims as we can, based on existing work
Natively implement IIIF into systems we can feed back to or control
Explore what should come next for IIIF, based on real implementation needs
Breakfast will be supplied by IIIF, but otherwise all expenses are the responsibility of the attendee. Some, limited funding may be available to ensure a wide cross-section of the IIIF technical community can attend.
