This global volunteer movement seeks to bring the problem solving power of Human Centered Design and Service Design to the complexity of government service delivery. What is the Global GovJam Movement? This is a non-profit movement which invites people around the world to host simultaneous events as part of a two and quarter day global Hackathon. Participants, the “jammers,” ideate, make prototypes, test their ideas with users (citizens), and build new and novel products and services in the pursuit of better, human-centred government interactions and public services. What is a Jam? A jam is a human-centred design-led Hackathon. It uses the musical metaphor of “jamming” together, where a team of individuals who are unrelated come together to make great and new music. In GovJam people are the musicians, their experience and imagination the instruments and the music made is the novel products and services they could not create alone. Jams are about empathy, collaboration and experimentation. They promote co-design and participation. Come and stretch your understanding of what you are capable of creating in 19.5 intensive hours. What will I learn from this experience? Activity based end to end service design experience Jam starts with a prompt, generate problem spaces, generate solution spaces, focus on the user, build insight, generate prototypes, test them and iterate from the feedback. The user is king and their validation is the key to success. Realise the importance of Empathy to design Our Jams stimulate emotional intelligence amongst participants. Participants work in teams to empathise with their user, define the problem statement, ideate to generate possibilities, prototype, test and iterate to get closer to final solution for its users. Practice Lean Startup methods Learn to use Value proposition Canvas and Business Model Canvas etc. on your way to develop a new service or product prototype. "If you don’t believe it is possible to build a new business or service in 19.5 hours of intense activity with a bunch of strangers, come to the Jam and we’ll prove it."
