PowerApps with PowerAsh
30 Jun - 11:00 AM
Perth, Australia
Are you a young adult who’s not sure if they want to get into coding? Interested, but intimidated by advanced programming languages? Simply want to learn a new technological skill that could open the door to future opportunities? PowerApps is for you!
Following the success of similar classes in New Zealand, Ashlee and Paul Culmsee are back in Perth with a PowerApps hackathon targeted specifically at young adults.
PowerApps is a Microsoft service which allows nontechnical users to build mobile applications for business and share them securely within organisations. PowerApps skills are becoming increasingly sought after in organisations, and it is a good way to dip your toes in and give coding a go without having to learn complex languages. Best of all, no IT, developer, or advanced programming knowledge is needed! If you’ve ever done a basic formula in Excel or used a graphic calculator you have all the skills you need.
This class will be covering the basics of PowerApps, and will touch on a small bit of SharePoint.
NOTE: This event is for young adults (16-26) STRICTLY No IT professionals!
Light lunch will be provided.
INSTRUCTOR: Ashlee Culmsee
ASSISTANT: Paul Culmsee

What Participants in my Workshops Say...
"The Writally workshop presented by Cas McCullough is a must attend for any scientist attempting to communicate their science to a wider community. This workshop presents simple, yet effective, tools, which I preach in every written piece I now produce. It's also greatly improved my writing skills and has reignited the passion I once had for creative writing."
Jake Clarke, PhD Student, USQ, Queensland Science Workshop. Read Jake's post on the Queensland Science Blog
"Before I went to the Content Hackathon, I didn't write content and it was a frickin' pain in the neck. It dragged me down cos I knew I had to do it. It sucked! At the Content Hackathon, I realised that I could follow this simple pattern and use Writally to generate my content. I scheduled it and turned it into a habit. I literally got my entire year's content sorted on that day. Now I think about other stuff, and the content is no longer a problem. It's happening - predictably! #HowIGeneratedAYearsContentInADayWithCasWritally" Josh Wulf from Magikcraft.io.
"Thank you for the fantastic Writally workshop! It has really kickstarted a blogging frenzy!! :)." Emily De la Pena, (from Coding Kids)

Frequently asks questions (FAQs)
How many people are allowed in a team?
Teams must contain 2, 3 or 4 people. Teams with 5 or more people in them must break into two or more smaller teams. Individuals can't compete but we will help you find at least one other person to form a team with (see below).
I already have teammates, can I just participate with them?
Yes! As long as you have at least one other person on your team (and your team doesn't have more than four people in it).
I don't know anyone else attending, how will I form a team?
We have your back! We have built in a number of ways for you to meet other people in the same boat and will help you form a team with people you want to spend Saturday with. Before the event you will be invited to a Facebook Group and Friday night will start off with some casual networking over drinks. During the presentations, everyone will introduce themselves so you know who else is looking for team members. During dinner, the organiser will help match individuals together and make sure no one is left out. If you have any questions or concerns please send an email to riley@energylab.org.au.
Can I still participate if I don't have an idea?
You can! We'll help your team find something interesting to work on.
Do I have to spend the entire time at Enterprize Hobart?
Nope, but we would encourage you to. It's a great venue and we'll provide a constant stream of food and drink. However, if you would be more comfortable elsewhere or have other commitments then you're free to come and go. Please just be back in time for the presentations on Saturday.
I have another question, who can I talk to?
Send Riley an email to riley@energylab.org.au.

The Innovation Manager Crash Course
22 Jun - 09:00 AM
Melbourne, Australia
Innovate Within A Large Corporation
Our workshop empowers intrapreneurs. Identify innovation opportunities, win support from decision makers and execute for results.
.
Innovation without the fluff. Use time-tested innovation strategies to spark business growth and create a competitive advantage.
Discover Revenue Opportunities
New technologies are disrupting marketplaces while creating new angles for growth. Rather than risk getting disrupted, you have the opportunity to leapfrog over your competitors.
Superior Customer Experience
Within a saturated marketplace, quality products and pricing strategies are no longer enough. That is where superior customer experience becomes your competitive advantage.
Drive A Culture of Innovation
Attract the best talent by growing your reputation as an innovative company. Up-skilling them to thrive in the 21st century increases job satisfaction, retention and company- wide productivity.
.
Industries are getting disrupted, yours included.
New technologies set the stage for new revenue opportunities and competitors. The fight for market share and top talent is more intense than ever.
Management feels the urgency and has put you in charge.
You set off looking for solutions, but it quickly gets overwhelming:
You come across “best practice” articles on corporate innovation. Unfortunately, it’s loaded with theoretical fluff that holds little practical value. You need more than just hope. You need a process for innovation.
You discover stories of successful companies who launched innovation labs. These projects looked promising at the start but failed to live up to the hype. You want to avoid this scenario at all cost.
If “Innovation” is not in your job title, you are probably feeling stretched - having to run new initiatives on top of your day to day responsibilities.
There are multiple decisions to make such as “Should I start with a hackathon, workshop or accelerator?” and “How do I best gain buy-in from key stakeholders, especially those who are resisting change?”
You might even look to external consultants for help. However, you aren’t exactly sure if they can deliver. This is critical given that your company’s budget and your career reputation is on the line..
This has led us to launch our flagship course “The Innovation Manager Crash Course.” We designed it to help corporate innovators (like yourself) cut their learning curve.
In this course, you will discover how to:
Pick the right innovation programs that deliver quick wins for your organisation. Instead of relying on guesswork.
Overcome initial skepticism from key decision makers. You will learn how to create a compelling case for innovation.
Execute on idea contests, hackathons, and prototyping sessions. Essential if you aim to hit the ground running.
Use the right metrics to measure the success of your programs. This attracts career recognition and further support from management.

To Be Disrupted - Ideathon
22 Jun - 08:30 AM
Southbank, Australia
General Information
The Supply Chain and Logistics Association (SCLAA) in partnership with RMIT University’s School of Business IT & Logistics and Pitchblak are proud to present “To Be Disrupted”
Have you heard of a Hackathon? Well, get ready for the non-coding equivalent – The Ideathon.
We are looking for students and professionals of all types and backgrounds! The only prerequisite is a hunger to challenge the status quo…Get ready to disrupt!
Problem Statements
The event will challenge teams to develop and present solutions to the following two problem statements:
Innovation Challenge A – Waste and Reverse Logistics: Every year Australia sends 500,000 tonnes of recycling waste to China! With China’s recent ban on mixed recycling imports, Australia is presented an immediate issue to be dealt with nationally, and at the same time, presents a huge opportunity to dramatically develop the way Victoria manages the disposal and reverse logistics supply chain.
Innovation Challenge B – Last Mile Delivery: Consumers have never been more demanding on businesses. They want everything cheaper, faster and personalised. This puts incredible strain on a supply chain, in particular, the logistics of the delivery. Innovating the “last mile” is the key to unlocking value in this area. It’s never been more important for businesses to find innovative solutions to this part of supply chain.
Teams will work together under the guidance of expert facilitators to see which ideas are most disruptive, feasible and viable!
Provided with thought-provoking problem statements, dynamic teams will collaborate to innovate futuristic solutions that can be implemented within a 5 to 10-year horizon!
Teams will pitch their solutions at the end of the day to the rest of the Ideathon cohort and our esteemed panel of judges and industry experts.
Prizes will be awarded for the most innovative solutions as scored by our judging panel!

To enter is easy – simply register and pay for your ticket [$10 if you're a student, $20 if you're a professional] and show up on the day!
