Honey Hackathon (for Uni Students)
18 May - 05:30 PM
Perth, Australia
This Honey Hackathon is to address an industry challenge and create new business opportunities in solving them. Western Australian honey is the purest in the world as we have the healthiest bees. This is a result of the combination of quarantining our borders and the honey bees feeding from our vast stretches of endemic flora. The challenge is how can we make international markets recognise the value proposition of our honey? Professor Thierry Volery will lead the Hackathon. Thierry is the Head of the Marketing Discipline in the UWA Business School. The Hackathon weekend will: Start on Friday 18th May 5.30 – 8.30 pm to give you an overview of the WA honey bee industry, honey as a product and present marketing channels. Saturday 19th May 9 am – 5 pm will open with idea and group formation. Tools will be shared to crystallise your business idea. Experts will be coming in during the day to assist your group. Sunday 20th May at 9 am – 5 pm will be focussed on developing and presenting a pitch to investors. Experts will be coming in during the day to assist your group.  Between 3 and 5 pm, each group will pitch to a panel and the winning team awarded a prize to assist them with the formation of their new company. The cost of this weekend is $20 for students which includes refreshments through the day, lunches and presentation drinks and canepes.

Help alleviate the world's ageing population crisis New Futures Hackathon for Aged Care 2018 is a health-focused hackathon for people of all backgrounds and experience who share a passion for technology, design, innovation and making the world a better place. Meet new people, be exposed to fresh ideas, learn new skills and build creative, original work. WHY AGED HEALTHCARE? The world’s ageing population will have far-reaching implications for society. Direct challenges for health systems will include changing health profiles, increased demand for health service use, and rising health costs. The challenges are twofold: first, the rapidly growing group of ‘old old’ (85 and over) people who have a range of typical age-related health problems, for example, arthritis, dementia and cancer; and secondly, the younger cohort entering the ‘65 and over’ age bracket with a larger burden of lifestyle-related diseases (for example, type 2 diabetes) than previous generations. Further, social changes among the next generation of older people—such as greater understanding and awareness of health issues and greater expectations of health services—pose additional challenges. These challenges may influence future models of health-care delivery and engagement. Aged care challenges Focus your solution on the following challenges: Promoting good health across the lifespan Enabling healthy ageing Supporting socioeconomic participation Enhancing productivity in health-care delivery PRIZES Best Tech Solution - $3,000 cash and a 3-month residency at Three76 Hub with specialist mentorship, valued at up to $4,620 Runner-Up Tech Solution $2,000 cash Rising Star Award $500 cash REGISTRATION FEESAll ticket proceeds will be donated to the Live Well, Age Well community program for older adults developed by UON’s Priority Research Centre for Generational Health and Ageing in partnership with retirement villages and communities.
