        20 Nov - 01:00 PM
        Canberra, Australia
DAMA Data Modelling Special Interest Group Webinar The webinar will commence at 13:00 pm ADST and finish sharply at 14:00 pm ADST. 13:00 - 14:00 Canberra, Sydney & Melbourne 12:00 - 13:00 Brisbane 12:30 - 13:30 Adelaide 10:00 - 11:00 Perth Abstract Every year at Data Modeling Zone (DMZ), I reflect on my assignments since the last DMZ, and share patterns observed that might influence our work in the years to come. Many of the observations shared at prior DMZ events have proven to influence our work such as our stronger relationship with the data scientist and the increased role of NoSQL within our organizations. This past year at DMZ US, I raised three challenges facing the data modeler, and that evening over 100 data modelers tackled these challenges as part of our annual Data Modeling Hackathon. On this webinar, we will discuss the three challenges followed by the results of the Hackathon. About the Speaker: Steve Hoberman has trained more than 10,000 people in data modeling since 1992. Steve is known for his entertaining and interactive teaching style (watch out for flying candy!), and organizations around the globe have brought Steve in to teach his Data Modeling Master Class, which is recognized as the most comprehensive data modeling course in the industry. Steve is the author of nine books on data modeling, including the bestseller Data Modeling Made Simple and most recent book Blockchainopoly: How Blockchain Changes the Rules of the Game. One of Steve’s frequent data modeling consulting assignments is to review data models using his Data Model Scorecard® technique. He is the founder of the Design Challenges group, Conference Chair of the Data Modeling Zone conferences, and recipient of the Data Administration Management Association (DAMA) International Professional Achievement Award. For more information on Steve, please see stevehoberman.com. About the Data Modeling SIG: Join the Data Modelling Special Interest Group to keep your skills relevant. The Data Modelling Special Interest Group (SIG) provides a forum for DAMA members to stay up-to-date with changes in data modelling. We have built in lots of ways for you to meet other people in the same boat and will help you form a team with people you want to spend the weekend with. Before the event, you will be invited to a Facebook Group so you can start to get to know other people attending. The start of the event will include a few different networking opportunities, both casual and structured. During dinner, we'll help match individuals together and make sure no one is left out. If you have any questions or concerns please send an email to odette@energylab.org.au. Can I still participate if I don't have an idea? You can! We'll help your team find something interesting to work on over the weekend.  Do I have to spend the entire time at Enterprise Lab? Nope, but we would encourage you to. It's a great venue and we'll provide a constant stream of food and drink. However, if you would be more comfortable elsewhere or have other commitments then you're free to come and go. Please just be back in time for the presentations on Saturday. I have another question, who can I talk to?  Send an email to Odette Lawler at odette@energylab.org.au, or Tanya Egerton at tanya.egerton@scu.edu.au. KNIME Learnathon Melbourne - From Raw Data to Deployment
              16 Nov - 02:00 PM
              Melbourne, Australia
Join us on the 16th of November at the next free Data Science Learnathon in Melbourne where we will be joined by two of KNIME's very own Data Scientists, Kilian Thiel and Vincenzo Tursi for an afternoon of workflow-based hands-on KNIME exercises. WHERE: Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre - Room 207 COST: Free TIME: Registration 1:45pm, Commencing 2pm What is a learnathon? It's between a hackathon and a workshop. It's like a workshop because we'll learn more about the data science cycle - data access, data blending, data preparation, model training, optimization, testing, and deployment. It's like a hackathon because we'll work in groups to hack a workflow-based solution to guided exercises. The tool of choice for this learnathon is KNIME Analytics Platform. KNIME Analytics Platform is an open, open-source, GUI driven, data analytics platform, that covers all your data needs from data import to final deployment. Being open, KNIME Analytics Platform offers a vast integration and IDE environment for R, Python, SQL, and Spark. After an initial introduction to the tool and to the data science cycle, we will split in groups. Each group will focus on one of three aspects of the data science cycle: Group 1. Working on the raw data. Data access and data preparation. Group 2. Machine Learning. Which model shall I use? Which parameters? Group 3. I have a great model. Now what? The model deployment phase. We will provide a few datasets, jump-start workflows and final solutions for the proposed tasks, and of course data science experts. Please bring your own laptop with KNIME Analytics Platform pre-installed. AGENDA: 13.45 – 14:00 - Welcome and Introduction 14.00 – 14:30 - Introduction to KNIME Analytics Platform 14:30 – 14:50 - The Data Science Cycle: From raw data to deployment 14:50 – 15:10  - Data sets and tasks presentation, group formation 15:10 – 17:00 - Let's work and learn! 17:00 – 17:30 - Networking
