A short, fun, co-creation research challenge based on blockchain at the centre of convergence around Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Internet of Things and Machine Learning.
The day will include Lunch and networking drinks. We begin with high-powered morning talks to define Blockchain within the context of Industry X (formerly Industry 4.0) We move into a swift mini-sprint of fun Design Thinking & rapid prototyping. A final pitch session is judged by research and industry practitioners who offer feedback on the day's activities and outcomes.
The Challenge
Focus on Blockchain solutions and the challenges and opportunities it presents for professionals across all industries; design, computer science, health, finance, engineering, manufacturing, architecture, media, business, and policy.
What to expect
Teams will examine issues and opportunities for Blockchain in the design of automated systems with a focus on the ethics of new, trust-based cultures. What are the social and ethical implications of Blockchain as a new system of communication and commerce?

Design Jam | Innovate to Improve Health | @ World Hospital Congress

For the first time, the World Hospital Congress, being held this year in Brisbane, Australia, will feature a one-day Design Jam.
The aim is to identify significant problems and opportunities in health - and bring together bright and diverse thinkers (from across and beyond health) to ideate, co-create, validate, develop, and pitch solutions to improve health and care.
Design Jam - 9:00am-5:00pm
Participants will be guided by mentors to apply a collaborative human-centered design approach to solving some of health's biggest problems, drawing inspiration and input from diverse stakeholders and experts on call. Food and beverages will be provided to fuel the day - turning problems into great ideas and tested solutions.
Pitch presentations - 5:30pm-6:30pm
Following the Design Jam, participants, judges and guests will be invited to the Auditorium for the formal Pitch presentations.
Each team will nominate one or more team members to present their solution to the audience and expert panel of judges.
There will be an opportunity for both judges and the audience to provide input and feedback to the ideas pitched, such as regarding the desirability, feasiblity, viability and future development of ideas. The judges will decide and announce the winners and prizes.

Design Jam organisers and facilitators

Enrico Palermo, President at The Spaceship Company will be joining us for the Space Apps 2018 Info Session for a Q&A.
Originally from Perth, Enrico is currently based in Mojave, California, where he leads operations for The Spaceship Company - Virgin Group’s first engineering, manufacturing and flight test enterprise, as the world's first company building and testing a fleet of commercial spaceships.
Enrico is focusing on the company’s transition from a start-up with one customer and one vehicle in assembly business, to one with 450 employees, multiple customers, flight test operations and multiple vehicles in work, with its first spaceship, VSS Unity now entering flight test phase.
Enrico has lived and worked in Australia, Europe and the US, with experience across cities, offshore gas platforms and remote deserts.
Enrico's participation is supported by the Perth USAsia Centre for the The Zone Above: The Ind-Pacific Era in Space on 8 Oct 2018.
About SpaceApps
Space Apps is an international hackathon that occurs over 48 hours in cities around the world. Part of the Open Government Partnership, Space Apps is an annual event that pulls citizens together regardless of their background or skill level.
Don't let the name fool you... it's not just about apps! Tackle a challenge using robotics, data visualization, hardware, design and many other specialties! Inspire each other while you learn and create using stories, code, design and, most of all, YOUR ideas. Show us your problem-solving skills and share your talents with the world!
How it works
Participants will organise into project teams to work on solving one of the specific challenges issued by NASA. Teams utilise publicly available NASA data to design all kinds of innovative solutions to the set Challenges. Any project teams get to pitch their solutions at the end of the weekend and there are some great prizes up for grabs. Plus up to two teams from the Perth competition can be selected to participate in the global judging.

This hack aims to solve some issues for charities focused on homelessness using technology. WHAT IS IT? A hackathon (hack) is a creative problem-solving methodology that sources inspiration from the crowd. An Innovation Coach will lead the group through design thinking concepts to solve problems around road safety education.
WHY ARE WE DOING THIS? RAC Community Education work in partnership with the Network Teach Road Safety Team to provide free road safety education to primary school students in WA. To help us continue to improve our current road safety education offering we are running this event to work together to innovate, inspire and develop ideas that will improve road safety education for primary school students.
