The Idea: Execution and Evaluation to Develop an Effective Pitch
        08 Oct - 06:00 PM
        Ottawa, Canada
Pitching is the secret weapon of all great entrepreneurs. It’s a skill to sharpen in order to build a team and attract investment. At our pitch workshop, we help you learn how to effectively convey your idea in a way that transcends disciplines and reaches each individual regardless of their background or perspective. There are two qualities that can help you develop your pitch. 1. Having the willingness to consistently improve and 2. Seeking frequent feedback on your pitch by experienced entrepreneurs. These are important qualities that will enable the development of your pitch. Without these you may be putting your efforts into the 80% that achieve little rather than that all-important 20%. We will help you refine your pitch by providing guidance, practice opportunities and a feedback session. At the end of this session you can expect to be able to: Communicate and work with talent outside your own area of expertise Identify the elements of an effective  pitch  (Intro, problem, vision, requirements) D.R. Pitching at Montreal's Largest Hackathon ( @Sainte- Justine Hospital, 2014) Here's the Agenda: Welcome and 3-minute overview presentation Proposed project pitches. Each one is 90sec to get to the point + 60sec more for depth 60 sec for the crowd to write feedback, comments, reactions After receiving written feedback from the facilitators you will have 60min (1h) to team up and refine your pitch. Parking Note: There is designated visitor parking in the business park is somewhat limited, but parking is available along Gladwin. Before the Event:   You can try this formula: Introduction: 10 seconds   Introduce yourself & your background Title your idea  Problem: 15-20 seconds   Who is the audience you are targeting, and what specific concerns do they have? Describe the problem you want to solve Vision: 20 seconds   Describe your vision – What are the benefits for your customers? What makes your solution different from others out there? Requirements: 10 seconds   What will the solution require to get started: What people are you looking for? Any skills your team is missing? What technology do you want to use? Instead, participants came together to connect, collaborate, and create through prototyping tools. For more information on Protohack: protohack.org   We will be bringing back our top 5 teams to participate in a Showcase that includes a long-form presentation of their original 90s pitch and a Q&A to share with us about their Protohack experience and update us on what's happened since the event.    In the audience, there will be a number of our panelists, VCs, Angels, Founders, and other influential members of our startup community.
