Farmers, producers, students, business professionals, developers, engineers, agrologists! The University of Saskatchewan Junior Chamber of Commerce invites you to sign-up to participate in the Emerging Agriculture hackathon — an agriculture-themed case competition. You'll collaborate with students in agriculture, computer science and com​merce from other colleges, Your challenge will be to use technology and innovation to address some of today's pressing problems in agri​culture. Collaborate and compete! 1st and 2nd place teams will take home some awesome prizes.

HIP613 Café: Health Innovation Panel Following our very successful Health Innovation Program (#HIP613) launch in partnership with CHEO-OCTC, join us for a panel on tech innovation as well as audience Q & A, informal discussions and networking opportunities. You can expect to hear thoughtful perspectives from leaders in the space of design, medicine and technology that will help us re-imagine problems and solutions. The goal is to connect with healthcare and non-healthcare professionals that have a different skill set and are equally passionate about solving problems so that you can start forming your power team for the hackathon. The panelists are: Dr. Mark Dermer (Family Physician and Healthcare Consultant at Mark Dermer and Associates Ltd.) Jeannine Lafrenière (Founder & President at Forget For a Moment Foundation) Monica Zaczynski (User Experience Design & Research Consultant at Telus Health) Felipe Izquierdo (Founder at Welbi.co) The panel will be moderated by Adam Freed. Refreshments and snacks will be served. All ticket proceeds go towards supporting the Health Innovation Program. Dr. Mark Dermer is the founder and managing associate of the Central Ottawa Family Medicine Associates (COFMA), an 11-doctors, 4-nurses family medicine practice that uses a full electronic medical record and which is recognized as a Canadian leader in innovative, high quality interdisciplinary care.After taking a mid-career sabbatical he focused on meaningful disruptions and change of our healthcare systems. Jeannine Lafrenière, the is founder and president of the Forget for a Moment Foudantion, knows first-hand about the stress, anxiety and apprehension experienced by patients in health care institutions. Diagnosed with cancer, and waiting anxiously in a hospital waiting room for test results, she wished for something other than old magazines to distract her from her worries.  Monica Zaczynski is a User Experience Designer and Researcher. After completing her masters in Human Computer interaction, Monica spent several years at Akendi Inc, an experience design and research consultancy here in Ottawa. A number of personal health experiences led her to really examine the healthcare experience for patients and re-evaluate her own career path. Feeling the need to get more involved in meaningful design in healthcare, she began consulting with Telus health where she is now. Felipe Izquierdo is a young entrepreneur and technologist with a focus on older adult care. Felipe's IoT health startup called Welbi helps you look after aging parents living alone. The application leverages wearables, like Fitbit and Garmin, to help you support an older loved one. Welbi analyzes sleep quality, activity, and heart rate patterns and then notifies you if a potential risk is detected.    Adam Freed is currently Principal, Human Factors and Healthcare Engineering Consultant at FactorSafe Solutions, an Ottawa-based consultancy dedicated to proactive safety management through the enhancement of human performance. Originally a high-tech R&D engineer, influential experiences with the healthcare systems in Canada and abroad led him to refocus on improving the patient experience. Since obtaining a Masters of Applied Science from Carleton University in Biomedical Engineering with a focus on Human Factors, Adam has worked with various healthcare organisations, including The Ottawa Rehab Centre, The Ottawa Hospital, Algonquin College’s School of Health and Community Studies, Human Factors MD, Health Canada, and CHEO. Outside of his consulting work, Adam is the Chair of CapCHI (local branch of an international computer-human interaction special interest group), the founder of IoT613 (Ottawa’s Internet of Thing Conference), and a sessional instructor at Carleton University. High school students in grades 8 -12! Do you have an entrepreneurial spirit? Are you interested in the start-up economy? Come, participate and learn in Startup Hacks. The event is a non-coding, learning-based business startup hackathon that covers topics such as idea creation, prototyping, business foundations, and more. Using prototyping tools provided, you'll collaborate in a team to build the Startup Hacks challenge app and then pitch your project to a panel of business professionals.
