WHAT'S AN IMPACT JAM? A two-day Innovation Hackathon focused on turning innovation into impact against a specific global challenge.
The 9Billion Lives Impact Jam - Food Waste will connect innovation hubs in Stockholm, Toronto and Nairobi to collectively work on the Food Waste challenge - sharing skills, ideas, and experiences using the Challenge Dialogue System framework.

HackEDbeta is a welcoming event that provides a great learning environment for students from any program of study or school (including our high school friends!) Whether or not you have programmed before does not matter! We want you here regardless your level of experience!
Mentorship
Mentors from cool startups in Edmonton and grad students of the University of Alberta will be available throughout the event to help students along with their projects.
Competition
Worried about being in a competition? Don’t be! The competition aspect is optional - if you wish to opt out of presenting your project at the end, you can. This hackathon is all about learning something new and the environment will be extremely laid back. The prizes are sweet, and so is the swag!

Mentors!
Mentoring at HackEDbeta is a great opportunity to work with these young talents on a face-to-face level. Get engaged in the problems they’re solving over the 24 hours, and support them through their adventure.
How to Mentor?
Help students past their roadblocks and guide them towards a solution. 24 hours can be a lot time so we’ve broken up the time into 6, four hour shifts.

The Calgary Region Hackathon 2017 is a three-day competition to create a mapping or software solution, such as an application or website, using Calgary Region Open Data. You will have the opportunity to pitch your product to a panel of judges, in addition to fellow Hackathon attendees, for a chance to win amazing prizes! The first 50 people to register will receive an awesome swag bag!
Date: Friday, November 17 to Sunday, November 19, 2017
Time: Friday - 5:00 p.m. to 12:00 am | Saturday - 10:00 am to 12 am | Sunday - 10:00 am to 8:00 pm (lunches and dinners will be provided along with snacks and coffee).
Location: Aldred Centre, SAIT Campus
Capacity: Space is limited to 200 participants (must be 18+)
Theme: “Why the Calgary Region?” Create maps, apps, and websites helping users understand and enjoy the abundant Calgary Region opportunities for recreation, industry, and healthy communities.
Prizes: $5000 for first place, $2000 for second and $1000 for third...and more!
Teams: Teams must be between two and six people. You can register for the event as a team or you can come solo and join an existing team or form a new one.
Resources: There will be mentors on site all weekend. In addition, Esri Canada recently published a blog outlining some free resources available for the weekend of the Hackathon. Power bars and extension cords will also be on site, but you are required to provide the hardware and software you will need to complete the Hackathon.

Guy Pearce - Managing Partner: REData Performance Consulting and Board Director: IIBA
Guy Pearce (BSc, BCom, MBA) has served on various Boards in Banking, Financial Services and Retail over the last decade, as well as on their Risk, Audit, Governance and Credit Committees. He has also served as CEO of a multinational operation serving 100,000 customers in three countries with a staff complement of 700. He has published numerous articles and presented numerous keynotes on various aspects of governance, risk, IT and data around the world, and is interested in the competitive transformation potential and governance implications of Big Data, IoT, and Blockchain. His $94.95 million big data case study is an example of a practical outcome of this interest.
Denys Linkov - University of Toronto Computer Science Student / Tech Under Twenty Lead
Denys is a third year student at the University of Toronto studying Computer Science. He enjoys reading, discussing and exploring everything related to tech, including Blockchain and Bitcoin. Denys leads the Silicon Halton Tech Under Twenty initiative and has interned at two Halton companies - Geotab and VL Omni in the two summers. Denys has been selected as a participant in EthWaterloo - the world's largest Ethereum hackathon. He will be joining 300 other ambitious developers for the opportunity to build the decentralized future and work alongside the inventors of Ethereum. He will be sharing his insights and experiences about the hackathon.

Hack: Creative collaboration for idea generation and problem solving to a challenge.
Challenge: The lottery in Atlantic Canada offers a range of games to residents. Players can buy a scratch ticket at a retail store, purchase a jackpot ticket through ALC’s iOS or Android app, or play instant games online. However many of the games offered are also available across Canada. Can you come up with an innovative, creative lottery idea for East Coasters? We want to see it!
Volta Labs and Atlantic Lottery will host Atlantic Lottery Hackathon.006. This two evening hack will begin Thursday, November 2, 2017 (6pm-9pm) with an introduction to our current product portfolio, challenges and opportunities. This is your chance to ask questions as you start exploring ideas. After a week of behind the scenes work, presentations and judging will begin at 6pm Thursday, November 9, 2017. This free hackathon allows you to work at your own pace to explore ways to engage players in the East Coast. This is a fantastic way to show off your design, programming or other talent. Not to mention $4000 in prizes!

The Theme: East Coast Hack
In this hackathon, your challenge is to create fun, fresh ideas for lottery or other real money gaming with an East Coast Canada Theme. This could mean an instant scratch ticket, a jackpot game, a online click game, an app or something else entirely.
Judging:
Projects will be judged on presentation, creativity and, of course, the tech made during the event!
Note there are separate prizes for top design and top technical design.

This event is 19+.
The Competition is open only to legal residents of Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island who are 19 years of age or older as of the date of entry.
Teams must be confirmed by 9:00 pm on Thursday, November 2, 2017.
Schedule:
Thursday November 2nd: Doors open at 5:30 p.m. to eat pizza, have some refreshments and meet and mingle with your fellow hackers. The hackathon will kick off at 6pm.
Thursday November 9th 6pm: Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Presentations and judging will begin at 6pm followed by award presentation! Each team will have 5 minutes to present their idea.
