DevLess Hackathon - Learn, Build & Win a Prize

The DevLess Hackathon is a 2-day event which brings together developers, individuals, students and business professionals to brainstorm and develop creative tech solutions aimed at solving problems in our society.
At the event, you will go through a series of training sessions administered by experienced Developers from DevLess and Business Fellows from the Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology. You will then form a team to build solutions to your proposed challenges using the DevLess Platform in the process.
Mentors will be available to guide and assist you and your team should you face any challenges.

I don’t have very much coding experience, can I still participate?
Yes! A Hackathon provides the perfect environment for you to learn how to code quickly. Knowledge about HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (as a web developer) is enough for you to be successful at the hackathon. Mentors and experienced developers are available to support you. All you have to do is try something and the experience automatically follows.
What do I need to bring?
Come with your laptop and don’t forget the charger! And, make sure to bring your awesome ideas! Use your preferred IDE (e.g. Visual Studio, Eclipse, etc.) for this Hackathon.
What should I learn/read before coming?
Familiarize yourself with the DevLess Framework. It is a easier and faster way to put together the backend of web and mobile applications. Read the documentation and practice making API calls.
What are we building?
Solutions to be built at the hackathon should solve a problem in society... from agriculture, education, sanitation, etc. It could be in the form of a web application, or a mobile application.

Hack for Digital Ghana : Garage 1

AODC in Collaboration with Ghana India Kofi Annan Center of Excellence in ICT and Africa Open Data and Internet Research Foundation will convene technologists at the Ghana India Kofi Annan Center of Excellence in ICT from August 10, 2017 – August 11, 2017, to develop innovative technology solutions for Ghana. The hack for digital Ghana is in preparation towards the Africa Open Data Conference schedule to take place in Ghana at the Accra International Conference Center from the 17 – 21 July, 2017.The Hack for Digital Ghana is not limited by programming language and/or operating system. Developed solutions may be mobile applications, web applications, computer or mobile games, websites, databases, or visualization tools and/or technology that address the hackathon challenges. Recruitment Criteria
1. The AODC2017 Hack for Digital Ghana Garage 1 is open to individuals pursuing an undergraduate or a post-graduate degree with specific emphasis on health, Agric and Nutrition, Education, Extractive, Gender, design, engineering, ICT and other related fields.
2. Teams should consist of a minimum of Four people and maximum of Six people.
3. Teams should promote gender equality. As possible, the teams should encompass both technical and functional competencies
AODC @ Ghana-India Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT: Hackathons

The Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (AITI-KACE), Ghana's first Advanced Information Technology Institute works to stimulate the growth of the ICT Sector in ECOWAS. Established in 2003, through a partnership between the Government of Ghana and the Government of India, this state-of-the-art facility provides a dynamic environment for innovation, teaching and learning as well as practical research on the application of ICT4D in Africa.
For our site visits, we will be hosting two hackathon events with OpenStreetMaps (OSM) and Wikidata.
OpenStreetMap Mapathon: 8 am - 5 pmIntroduction to OpenStreetMap and mapping of a target area TBD. The HOT Activation training builds on and improves the skills of Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Activators using mapping software and practices. Participants will be guided through the online open curriculum, learning the theory and skills it takes to support a HOT activation before engaging in a simulation putting this into practice.
Wikipedia Workshop : 10 am - 4 pm
Introduction to Wikipedia emphasising how to contribute to a Wikipedia page by editing and creating new pages. Participants will thereafter be guided to practice their skills on improving the Wikipedia pages for topics in Accra and Ghana.
NB: All participants must bring a laptop with a modern browser and capable of being connected to the internet to effectively participants in either sessions.

Your challenge is to create software solutions that will help support the movement towards a shared-value platform for sustainable cocoa supply chains. In this two-day hackathon, you'll network and work with developers, economists, cocoa producers and experts in the sector to collaborate to design new and innovative software tools and tech solutions to support Ghanaian cocoa farmers in the supply chain.
