Digital Makers at the Guild

Do you feel that there should be more emoji, such as unicorns, kittens or you! Ever wanted to make your own emoji, your favourite games, or digital stories? Do you want to learn about electronics and robotics, and program things to move?  Digital Makers at the Guild, every Saturday 12.30 til 2.30pm Students aged 8 to 15, come and learn all there is to know about coding. To start with, you can work on creating your own emojis, interactive graphics, websites, digital stories, games, and much more.  During Digital Makers sessions, you can also have fun making interactive physical things putting together LittleBits or soldering electronic kits. We also have Ozobots, microbits, and a parrot drone which is programmable with Tickle on the iPads. We have a limited number of iPads and laptops, so if you have a laptop or iPad, please bring it along! Note:  We won't be able to run the sessions on: * 3rd & 17th June, or 1st July, due to family parties, concerts, and year 6 end of school events.* 21st October, due running an all day event for the Bath Digital Festival!* 28th October, due to attending DroidCon 2017 in London!* 2nd December, due to attending the #AcornHackJI Interfaith Hackathon for Teens in London!

      What: Digital Cities Hackathon: Hack The Screen, Saturday 11th November – Sunday 12th November 2017 Where: Animation Labs, University of Ulster, Belfast Campus When: Saturday 10:00 until Sunday 20:00 What is happening: As part of BBC Digital Cities week, Northern Ireland Screen is hosting a hackathon on Saturday 11th November from 10am to Sunday 12th  November 8pm, to be held in the Animation Labs at the Belfast Campus of Ulster University. Aimed at bringing the screen industries and the tech community together to develop innovative new games, immersive and interactive experiences across all platforms, participants will be able to build teams, broaden their network of entrepreneurs and mentors and establish long term collaboration opportunities across the sectors. During the hackathon, teams will have the opportunity to a select from a number of themed toolkits provided by industry partners and over the course of 36 hours prove their concept by building a prototype while figuring out their audience, pricing structure and how to promote their product. Throughout the weekend participants will have access to industry feedback, mentors and lightening talks to support the development of their ideas and with the most viable projects being selected to be showcased at events throughout the rest of the Digital Cities Belfast week. It is intended that teams that have commercially viable projects that can contribute to a sustainable screen industry will be supported in their entrepreneurial journey in bringing their project to market through introductions to mentors, commissioners and financiers. Who should attend? The weekend aims to encompass a diverse range of backgrounds and skills, at all levels and prove that entrepreneurship in the digital media sector is a viable option for anyone; therefore, participants from tech and non-tech backgrounds, students to industry veterans are highly encouraged to contribute their unique talents and perspectives. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis, please register early to avoid disappointment. Registration will close on Wednesday 8th November to ensure access to facilities at Ulster University.
