Social Storm (24hr Hackathon) at ARU! Test your skills as well as your stamina! Social Storm is an out of theclassroom learning activity, where you’re challenged to solve areal-life social problem as identified by the United Nations (UN). This unique opportunity operates in a virtual space, with studentsfrom across the world working together to solve a problem in 24 hours.Social Storm projects could change the lives of vulnerable people byapplying entrepreneurial skills and mindsets to social issues.What a way to conclude Global Entrepreneurship Week! This event will take place in QUE210 which is one of the computer rooms on the 2nd floor of the library in the Queens building Social Storm Are you passionate about building a better society? Can you use your skills and ideas to find solutions to our society's problems?   We’re looking for people who believe they can make a difference to society, from any background or degree discipline, to join our unique 24-hour event. You will be working in teams comprised of students from other universities, to find a sustainable solution to a real life problem, and submitting a video pitch to a team of judges. This event is for Anglia Ruskin University students only. Transport will be provided to Cambridge based students to get to the Chelmsford campus. Law is the next significant sector going through disruption using AI, Algorithms, Machine Learning and Big Data. We expected lots of innovation in the legal industry, instead, we’ve seen very little. Computer programmers and other developers will be attending our hackathon event to create innovative solutions to solve real challenges in the legal sector. Lawyers, technologists and computer scientists will also be attending to create innovative solutions to solve real challenges in law. Come and join the colleague insight team as you and your store colleagues help us improve the store experience. It’s your chance to hear about what’s coming up, and get involved with how things will change in the future. Be part of shaping some of the changes and helping us improve things for stores. The Hackathon is a session designed to get you involved in decision making and problem solving around the topics that affect stores the most. You’ve all shown yourselves to be invested and interested in the business by making suggestions, sending in queries, or asking to be involved in sessions in the future, so we’d like you to attend and get involved. Please feel free to share this in your Area, with your AM for them to spread further, or to anyone else you know who may be interested. Hours will be credited for your time, so your store won’t be left short-changed, and we’ll be able to help with accommodation if you’re traveling long distance, though we can’t unfortunately help with travel.

Museum Hackathon: digging into museum data sets This digital humanities hackathon is focused on visualising museum data and making it accessible. This joint event brings together students and practitioners from the Media Centre and the Chair of Didactics of Computer Sciences of the TU Dresden (Germany), the UCL Centre for Digital Humanities and several museums and heritage institutions in London and Dresden. This hackathon is kindly hosted by the UCL Institute of Advanced Studies.  In several small, international groups the participants will develop useful, usable and good-looking software projects which have a potential for further development. These software projects will look at using existing data sets and making them accessible to the public or museum staff. We are also open to other innovative approaches to making use of the data sets.  If you are interested in certain topics or specific data sets, please let us know beforehand (email lucy.stagg@ucl.ac.uk)  so we can do our best to facilitate that. We also welcome proposals to utilise certain hardware (e.g., for VR applications). If you’d like to bring along hardware requiring special arrangements, please talk to us beforehand.
