    CRDN RAREsummit19
    23 Sep - 08:30 AM
    Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom
PATIENTS AS PARTNERS - EMPOWERED PATIENTS INFLUENCING CHANGE RAREsummit19 is a 1 day summit focusing on patient centricity in rare disease - mastery, opportunities and trends in the drug development process, healthcare and assistive technologies. View the full RAREsummit webpages here  Join 250 attendees, 26 speakers and 32 exhibitors to discuss which are the most pertinent challenges and innovative solutions in ensuring patients are valued and essential partners. A highlight of the rare disease calendar - can you afford to miss out? What if? What if we were able to share information with the power to revolutionise the current rare disease landscape? What if we could provide solutions to patients now, answering their pressing questions about their disease, care, and treatment? What if we could ensure that patients and advocates played an equal and vital role in the development of drugs, assistive technologies, and healthcare? Rare disease patients and their families are tired of waiting for answers and the slow pace of change. They want to be involved and share their lived experiences to help companies, researchers and healthcare professionals find answers and solutions. Hear from,  learn from and engage in cross-sector activities with a range of stakeholders: patients; patient advocacy groups; researchers; health care professionals and companies who are leading the way in pioneering partnerships to accelerate change. Join us at the Wellcome Genome Campus: a hub of life-changing science. We think it's the perfect venue to make progress for rare diseases. THE HACKATHON CHALLENGE The day will culminate in a  ‘hackathon’ activity.  So what's a hackathon? In a nutshell, cross-sector delegate teams will work together to explore what matters to you and what matters the most. "We need a national debate on rare diseases to offer the best possible care". Cambridge Rare Disease Network welcomes Baroness Nicola Blackwood to deliver a speech to usher in our cross-sector hackathon "What matters to you. What matters most?" The minister, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of Health and Social Care, recently said "I want to lead a national conversation on rare diseases, and how we care better for people. We want to talk to staff, patients, experts and researchers...to capture views on the big strategic issues that affect you." At RAREsumit hackathon we'll be giving delegates the opportunity, in cross-sector teams, to 'identify common themes and proposals to help develop the vision for a post-2020 rare disease framework'. Your thoughts and priorities will be shared with the Minister as a report following. Will you be there to have your say? Selected teams will have the opportunity to pitch their idea on stage.  We aim for delegates to be inspired to develop this cross-sector approach with patients as equal and vital partners. NETWORKING and COLLABORATION During an extended lunch, delegates enjoy networking and browsing charity, healthcare and company stands and a patient journey poster exhibition. For our summit 2017, 52 patient journey posters were created by various rare disease patient groups and individuals. Some of these will be displayed along with a new collection.  The day will close with a complimentary drinks and canapes reception where delegates can enjoy networking, reflecting on their day and developing partnerships for the future. Building the permaweb
      22 Sep - 05:24 PM
      London, United Kingdom
      $2,500 in ETH & 2,500 AR
We are increasingly losing control of our personal information by placing ownership of data in the hands of just a few. History has shown us time and time again how problematic centralization is, and today, monolithic power structures have dominated the infrastructure of the web, turning open networks into a place where information and freedom of speech are vulnerable to censorship and loss. In response to the increasing centralization of the web, Arweave is on a mission to build a new web -- the permaweb. The permaweb is a decentralized, immutable new web, built on top of a globally distributed, permanent hard drive -- the Arweave network. We want the decentralized permaweb to be accessible to everyone, but we want you to be a part of making that a reality. That’s why we’re looking for talented developers to build decentralized apps on the permaweb.

                Do Your Bit: Hackathon
                14 Sep - 10:00 AM
                London, United Kingdom
You’re invited to… Do Your Bit: Hackathon We are hosting a Do Your Bit: Hackathon as part of the global micro:bit challenge which launches in September, led by Micro:bit Educational Foundation and supported by British Council. This event is for Lambeth residents only and those eligible for sponsored places at our events. Check if you are eligible for sponsored places here. What can you expect at Do Your Bit: Hackathon? Children will be challenged to find a creative solution to real-world issues around two of the UN’s sustainable development goals – number 14 ‘Life Below Water’ and number 15 ‘Life On Land’. They will be using micro:bit to do this, a tiny programmable computer! See all the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals here. They’ll explore creative invention through micro-computing, which can be used to create everything from robots to musical instruments. They’ll design, build and programme their own projects in response to sustainable development goals 14 and 15. Have a look at some of the devices that the winners of the last Global Goals challenge created – like the impressive team of friends in Croatia that won the micro:bit Global Challenge for Europe for their Spine:bit creation. It was designed to prevent bad posture and reduce posture-related injuries! Once children at the event have got to grips with coding their micro:bit, they’ll start the creative process of prototyping their ideas in a specially designed space and using materials like motors, servos, lights and sensors as well as arts and crafts and their creativity! The workshop is designed for all abilities and allows children with previous experience of micro:bit to work on more complicated projects. Although this is a global competition, the main aim of the game is to have fun whilst learning. At the end of the event, they’ll have the choice to enter their ideas into the Do Your: Bit global competition. When and where is Do Your Bit: Hackathon? Saturday 14 September, 10:00am – 4:00pm, at the Imagination Lab. At 3:30pm there will be a show and tell session where children will demo and share their prototypes and get feedback. Who is Do Your Bit: Hackathon for and how much does it cost? Do Your Bit: Hackathon is a free event, for Lambeth residents and those eligible for sponsored places at our events only.  Check if you are eligible for sponsored places here. It is ideal for children aged 8-14. Parents or carers may drop their children off, as this is a drop-off event. Children aged 12 and over may attend independently. If you are not a Lambeth resident or eligible for sponsored places, check out our other events here. This event is being delivered in partnership with the British Council, who are supporting the annual micro:bit challenge do your :bit.
