This FREE workshop, presented by Amazon and Code District is intended for anyone interested in learning how to program voice controlled devices.  Amazon Alexa is a great place to start learning. Hands-on labs will teach you how to code cool skills for Alexa. Lucky participants will win a free Amazon devices! Goal of the hackathon Help InsurTech startups and entrepreneurs generate and refine a business plan and identify steps to take their ideas to the next level. Why a hackathon? Hackathons are known for their ability to stimulate creative, free-flowing ideas. By working with others, people are able to connect and create in ways they would not do by themselves. Hackathons are known as marathon coding competitions aimed at solving particular issues. This hackathon will not involve coding. Regardless, we encourage coders and non-coders to attend. Young people ages 14-18 in the Watts community! Come sign up to participate in Hustle N' Code: Rise Up for Upward Mobility. You'll be introduced to computer programming and challenged to come up with creative solutions to address community problems. You don't have to know how to code! You'll work with mentors during the event, who will help you learn to code and advise you, as you develop your solutions.

Progressive hackers in New York and wherever! You're invited to participate in Progressive HackDay -- a day-long hackathon, where you'll get to help improve and extend one of three projects in the progressive space. The projects are Spoke a text-distribution tool to mobilize supporters into action, New Sanctuary Coalition's custom internal software that facilitates their Accompaniment Program, or the Border Buddy web app that connects at-risk travelers with free legal help at U.S. airports.
