1st LSE Computational Social Science Hackathon
Are you interested in the intersection of social science and data science? Do you want to use your coding and data analysis skills to tackle social science problems? Are you looking for career opportunities in technology? If the answer to any of those questions is yes, you should participate in the 1st LSE Computational Social Science Hackathon!
The two-and-a-half day event will boast four computational social science challenges that will be solved by groups of approximately 10-12 participants each.
On top of that you can expect exciting R and Python workshops by:
- Introduction to Version Control with GitHub: Amy Dickens, Wilhelm Klopp; GitHub
- Machine Learning with Google Cloud AutoML Vision: Marc Cohen; Google
- Dive into dplyr: Grace Meyer; Oxera Consulting & R-Ladies London
- Quantiative Text Analysis with quanteda: Kohei Watanabe; LSE
- Introduction to SNA and Network Visualisation in R: Sílvia Majó-Vázquez; University of Oxford
- Applied Predictive Modelling with caret: Gokhan Ciflikli; LSE
Moreover, there will be an intersectional tech careers panel featuring:
- Mariama Boumanjal, Solutions Consultant at Google,
- Chanuki Seresinhe, Doctoral Researcher at the Alan Turing Institute,
- Anna Louise Schröder, Senior Data Science at XL Catlin
and a workshop on how to land a data science job by Ela Osterberger (Director of Analytics, Deliveroo), providing you with an invaluable opportunity to explore and learn from their career trajectories and kick-start your own tech career.
Each participant will be provided with $50 worth of Google Cloud credits that are good for the duration of the event.
