This hackathon is a celebration of diversity. Anyone who supports diversity is welcome — no matter your level of technical knowledge.
We are providing a space for people of all backgrounds who want to start building their tech portfolio or finish up a tech project while learning new skills. Previous experience in tech is **NOT** required.
Plus, we have a parallel FREE workshop track for anyone who wants to come and just start learning, learn more, or meet people.
Not sure what to work on? We encourage participants to look into open data or civic hacking projects, for more information check out Open Austin.
Code of Conduct
Women Who Code (WWCode) is dedicated to providing an empowering experience for everyone who participates in or supports our community, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, ability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, age, religion, or socioeconomic status. Because we value the safety and security of our members and strive to have an inclusive community, we do not tolerate harassment of members or event participants in any form. Weekend overview:
Friday 9AM - 5pm: FREE Workshops all day long (SEE END OF DESCRIPTION)
Friday 6PM: Happy Hour
Come enjoy refreshments, network with hackathon attendees, form teams, and meet other diverse folks in tech.
Saturday 8:00am - 8:00pm: Hack Time
Start working on your project with your team. We will serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, and some snacks throughout the day.
Saturday 8AM-1PM: FREE HEADSHOTS
Tips for headshots: Be yourself! Don’t wear anything too out of your comfort zone or your photos might reflect how uncomfortable you feel. Solid color tops are preferred. Repetitive patterns or chaotic designs can be distracting. Any color is fine, just keep in mind, cooler colors tend to look more flattering than warmer ones.
Saturday 8:00am - 6:00pm: FREE Workshops all day long (SEE END OF DESCRIPTION)
Sunday 8:00am - 4:00pm: Wrap up hacking in the morning, presentation and awards in the afternoon.

11AM - Killing the Vampires Inside Your Head: A pragmatic approach to conqueringimpostor syndrome with @digital_saas
12PM - Cybersecurity 101: Send friendly valentines using GPG encryption
Pre-reqs: Participants need personal computers with adequate power adapters or have a friend/neighbor who's willing to share. Have a Linux or Mac Terminal installed. Install GnuPG https://www.gnupg.org/download/
1PM - Intro to React/Javascript
Pre-reqs: Install node, npm, git, working browser, have terminal ready to run a command or two.
2PM - Intro to Gatsby Amberley Romo with @amber1ey

3PM - Getting started with IBM Carbon Design System's React components

10AM - Take Your IT Career to New Heights: The Cloud
11AM - Tech Career Coaching Sessions Jennifer Herrity
Pre-reqs: For best coaching experience, people should have a printed copy of their resume ready for review. Attendees will be able to do walk-up sessions with coaches specialized in working with technical jobseekers.
12PM - Intro to Kotlin for Android Mirella Batista with @mirella4real
Pre-reqs: Participants should dowload Android Studio. We'll look at Kotlin, how it is different from Java, install Android Studio and create a simple Android app.
1PM - Getting Started with Python with @sarasomewhere
Pre-reqs: Laptop.
2PM - Intro to Responsive Design with CSS Grid and Flexbox with @jamenamcinteer
Pre-reqs: Code editor, browser, git preferred but not required.
