Accessible Tech in Employment Hackathon #ATEHack 2016

Description

Accessible Tech Network is to generate bold solutions that enhance the quality of life for disabled people through the use of assistive technologies. We offer conferences, seminars, webinars and intensive 24hour and 48hour idea prototyping hackathons around a specific challenge.

Our first event of a series covering other themes related to assistive technologies is about employment – Accessible Tech in Employment Conference and Hackathon.

As part of the Fringe at the Accessible Tech in Employment conference, the Accessible Tech team works with MakeSense London and Make Sense School to host an Accessible Tech “Hackathon” #ATEHack.

The Accessible Tech Hackathon is a 24 hour (Saturday-Sunday, December 3-4) event for students and recent graduates passionate about accessible design, assistive technologies, IoT, and employment.

The hackathon initiative was created in collaboration with SenseSchool – a social enterprise powered by MakeSense. It was founded in 2012 by Marine Plossu, Caroline Delboy and Christian Vanizette with an aim to enable students and young graduates to learn and problem solve by getting involved in real challenges encountered by social enterprises in many different fields such as employment, health, housing, and many more. A methodology called “Innovation Game” will be used to guide the participants through the innovation process. To learn more about Innovation Games, check this video.

The goal of ATEHack is to pair teams of students with partners/projects in the London social enterprise (socent) community who tackle issues related to disability and accessibility. Each partner has a problem in mind which they face because of the certain tech accessibility issue. Over the course of the hackathon, students brainstorm, design, and create prototype solutions for their social enterprise.

*Note on teams*
If you have a team, you will be asked to fill out your project preferences as a team at the meeting with all our socent partners. If you do not have a team, you can use the meeting to learn about other participants and form a team, or we can match you with a team during the team-socent matching process following the meeting based on your project preferenes.

Before the hacakthon, teams meet their socent to better understand the problem they face and start brainstorming solutions.

Hackathon location is to be confirmed. More info soon!

Registration deadline is November 28th, 2016. Individuals registering after the deadline will be placed on the waitlist. In the case of limited spots, there will be a lottery with the results available December 1st, 2016.
