Challenge Details

Anthem, Inc. is committed to improving lives and communities. Part of that is addressing social drivers of health, which directly impact the health of a community. The conditions of where people are born, live, learn, work, and play affect a range of health and quality-of-life risks and outcomes. Social drivers of health could include:

  • Availability of resources to meet daily needs (e.g., safe housing and local food markets)
  • Access to educational, economic, and job opportunities
  • Access to health care services
  • Social support
  • Social norms and attitudes (e.g., discrimination, racism, and distrust of government)
  • Socioeconomic conditions (e.g., poverty)
  • Residential segregation
  • Language/Literacy
  • Access to mass media and emerging technologies (e.g., cell phones, the Internet, and social media)

Participants in the Community Health Challenge have the opportunity to apply their innovative, evidence-based solutions to help transform the current state of health literacy, medication adherence, and food insecurity.
