On March 22, join the leading UX/UI bootcamp, DESIGNATION, for an evening of AR, VR, and UI. For three hours, individuals or teams will work on developing innovative interface elements for AR and VR experiences. The hackathon will culminate in informal presentations as designers present their concepts to the group.

Schedule

6:00 - 6:30 Ideation
6:30 - 8:30 Concept execution
8:30 - 9:00 Presentations

What is UI for AR/VR?

Presently, UI patterns in the AR/VR space are nascent and device-dependent. Participants are encouraged, but are by no means required, to consider UI elements for the following interaction technologies: hand-object (Leap Motion, Meta), reticle-object (Cardboard, Gear VR), or controller-object (Oculus Touch, Vive).

Will you have AR/VR devices I can use at the hackathon?

If you would like to test and demonstrate your UI, we recommend you bring your own headset to the event. Devices may be available, but will be prioritized for presenting concepts at the end of the evening.

Do I need 3D design experience to participate?

All participants interested in developing UI elements for AR/VR are welcome. You are encouraged to build working prototypes in Unity, Maya, C4D, Blender, and Maya. Peers will be available to answer questions, but no formal instruction will be provided. Participants without 3D design experience are encouraged to visualize a high-fidelity mockup of their concept in Photoshop or After Effects.

Where is the event?

DESIGNATION is located at 1871's 3.0 space, on the 13th floor of Merchandise Mart. Detailed instructions will be sent to attendees prior to the event.

Will there be food?

Please eat dinner prior to the event. There is a Freshii onsite at 1871, and several options on the second floor of Merchandise Mart.
