ARM Hackathon
We are excited to announce the ARM Hackathon on the 3rd/4th of December 2016. All disciplines are welcomed to join the competition where you will get an opportunity to use ARM mbed microcontrollers, sensors, and explore the ARM mbed OS eco-system. Engineers will be present on the day to help you get started with the platform and for general support throughout the event.
Free entry and as always lots of Free Food and Drinks, provided throughout the event.
The theme is to create, in teams of 2-4, an ARM powered device that can be marketed towards the IOT “Internet of things” segment within 24 hours; students have previously created laser harps, robotic arm, smart plant pot, rowing tracker, weather blimp, bike lights, etc. truly endless possibilities!
There are three prizes up for grab, £300 for the winning team, £150 for the runners up, and £30 for the best tweet.
In terms of hardware, you will be provided with:
Board: BBC Micro:bits https://www.microbit.co.uk/
The board is powered by an ARM cortex M0 processor, comes with an accelerometer, magnetometer, bluetooth, 25 LEDs, and 2 programmable buttons.
Sensors: Loads, however these will be in limited quantities!
Light, temperature, sound, buzzer, speaker, water, heart-rate, ultra-sonic, IR, thumb joystick, rotary encoder, and potentiometer
You will get to keep the boards and sensors with you after the competition.

What is a hackathon?
During a hackathon you have 24 hours to work with a small team on something new and exciting. You will compete with other teams, but in the end everyone is a winner! -
What can I make?
Anything using ARMS equiptment! This may include both software and hardware. -
Does this cost money?
Nope. This is completely free. -
Do I have to know how to code?
No, as long as you want to work with others to help develop yours, or someone else’s idea! Generally, we need developers, designers and entrepreneurs! -
Is there food?
More than you can imagine. -
Can I sleep there?
There will be a sleeping area, but you should bring a sleeping bag if you really wish to sleep. If you are traveling from a long distance contact us after your application and we will try our best to accommodate you!
