What will the exercises be like?

Good question! Our selection process for problems is to identify a problem domain, then determine 4-5 problems to sequentially build upon eachother in that domain, with the expected complexity of each problem taking 30 minutes to an hour. As example, the problem domain for a previous retreat was Five Card Hold'em Poker. The first problem was to build a program that could model a 52 card deck, the next problem was to get that deck to shuffle. Eventually the program should deal cards and compare hands to determine a winner.

You've mentioned that these are group exercises. How will groups be decided?

In the first twenty minutes there's a general scrum where participants feel eachother out and naturally group up for which language they wish to work with for the day. Participants are encouraged to group up in such a way that the various groups have a smattering of experience levels. Inevitably some groups will have more general experience and competence than others, and that's okay! This isn't a competition, and groups aren't penalized for finishing problems late.

What language will we be doing the exercises in?

That's up to you and your group to decide! There isn't a event preferred language and previous events have seen the groups choose to use Java, Clojure, Javascript, C#, and others. This is also a great time to learn a flesh out a new language!

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Nope! This is an all ages event.

What are my parking options for getting to and from the event?

AB Tech has ample parking and is quite empty on a Saturday.

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

Yes, that isn't a problem.
