Australia's First Medical Cannabis Hackathon

Estimated to be worth more than $50 billion within the next 10 years, medical cannabis is unquestionably an emerging industry. With such rapid growth, comes great challenges.

BuddingTech is proud to be involved in developing a responsible, innovative, and politically-engaged medical cannabis industry in Australia. In partnership with University New South Wales (UNSW) and Sydney School of Entreprenurship (SSE), BuddingTech is hosting another Seedlings event, Australia's first medical cannabis Hackathon, which will focus on presenting a range of challenge areas across the biopharmaceutical industry. Hackers will be faced with addressing and problem-solving one or more of the following:

  1. Product Consistency - how can the industry achieve the standardisationrequired for pharmaceuticals to assure patients have a reliable and reproducible dose?

  2. Understanding the Entourage Effect - scientists have not yet been able to effectively explain precisely how components of the cannabis plant work together to produce different reactions. Understanding of the entourage effect is essential to determine how different ratios of cannabinoids in products create different treatment pathways.

  3. Quality Control - how can the industry effectively address the lack of quality control, considering the detection of pesticide levels and other substances typically not allowed in pharmaceutical products.

  4. Controlled Delivery Mechanisms - How do we move away from a culture of smoking? Oral delivery is often preferred for its convenience and acceptance in the regulatory approval process. However, is the industry missing something?

This event will explore solutions to very important biopharmaceutical related problems. Although this is the primary focus, BuddingTech understands the value of cross-pollination and welcomes all who are interested and eager to contribute.

Hack one or more of these problem areas and pitch your solutions to the panel. A range of prizes are on offer including;

  1. Pitching at CannaTech Aus event in mid-2018

  2. Acceptance into BuddingTech accelerator

  3. A year's worth of free tickets to all BuddingTech events, including CannaTech

The pitches will be delivered at a seperate event one week after the event, (date and time TBC), however there will be opportunity for you to practice your pitch and receive feedback on the Sunday.
