Berlin: Hackathon - Social Open Source
Use Open Source to Empower the Community
we are happy to announce that the next DCI Hackathon will take place on the 30th of April!
What is a Hackathon?
A hackathon (also known as a hack day, hackfest or codefest) is a design sprint-like event in which computer programmers and others involved in software development, collaborate intensively on software projects. (Source: Wikipedia)
Why should you attend?
You will have a common experience with the other learners from DCI.
You can work on a prototype together.
You will gain perspective on real life projects.
You can integrate experiences that are not necessarily related to development.
You can win nice prizes :)
What is the topic?
The topic of the Hackathon is Social Open Source. We currently live in a world where various factors profit from our lack of knowledge and involvement. Let’s try to give back to the community by harnessing the power of our digital age as a positive force.
We would like you to come up with ideas to empower the community using open source technology. You can create anything from a website, web app or even just an info page that is open for other people to edit. The project should focus on giving something back to the community in the following areas:
- Political rights
- Ecological awareness
- Social involvement
- Empower disenfranchised populations (minority groups)
- Connecting people to resources in: Health, Education, Basic human rights: Roof over head, bread to eat
What will you develop during a hackathon?
Minimum criteria: Mocks for a product (wireframes/click through)
What shall I prepare?
We need your support and ideas! You can realise your project ideas by pitching it in front of the other students. The best ideas will be part of the hackathon.
If you have a proposal, please send it to hackathon@digitalcareerinstitute.org including the following information:
What is your idea and how does it connect to the theme of the hackathon.
DEADLINE: Please send us your proposals until the 25th of April, 10pm!
