Developers. Designers. Marketers. Business Folk.

This is a call for you to get your FinTech idea off the ground with support from one of Australia's leading regional banks.

The BOQ Hackathon is your chance to collaborate and get involved with a group of motivated individuals passionate about disrupting the business banking and financial technology industries.

What can you expect?

Anyone is welcome to pitch an idea within 3 core problem tracks:
  • Big data for small business:
Big data can provide invaluable insights to businesses that can lead to improved decision making and strategic management. But how can businesses leverage this data to ensure they achieve a successful outcome? This track is open to ideas for new products and services which utilise big data and social media to deliver value to BOQ Business customers, improve and streamline internal processes and systems, or derive new insights and value internally at BOQ.
  • Customer Experience:
Financial service providers collect a lot of information about their customers, partly because they are regulated to do so. Capturing and maintaining this data can be a painful and time consuming process, where customers are often required to complete several forms or duplicate data into different applications. In this track we are looking for ideas to ensure that our customer data is accurate, complete, and in the hands of our front-line staff, whilst ensuring we are delivering the best customer experience possible.
  • Creative Genius:
This track is open to creative ideas which do not fit a specific track. We are particularly looking for unique solutions relating to new or improved products and services in the financial sector, ideas which will benefit our personal and business banking customers, streamline internal processes, administrative procedures and risk assessments, or improve productivity for the Bank
Teams organically form around the top ideas (by popular vote). Then, it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation.

The weekend wraps up with teams presenting their startup to local entrepreneurial leaders Michael Dempsey (founded EziDebit, sold to Global Payments for $305M) and Stephen Baxter (founded Pipe Networks, sold to TPG for $373M) alongside some of BOQ's own influential leaders.

The winners of each track will be awarded awesome prizes from the likes of BOQ, their customers and local partners, including the opportunity to be coached by financial services thought leader Jon Sutton, MD and CEO of BOQ.

What are you waiting for?

Start a company, find a co-founder, meet someone new, or learn a skill far outside your usual 9-to-5. You are guaranteed to leave the event better prepared to navigate the chaotic but fun world of startups. Put yourself in the shoes of an entrepreneur and register now.

Do I need to be a programmer?

Absolutely not! The most important part of the weekend is the idea generation, validation and customer development.

Refund Policy: No refunds will be granted within 7 days of the event if food and drink have already been ordered. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

About Bank of Queensland

BOQ is one of Australia’s leading regional banks. We’re also among the few still not owned by one of the big banks.

We pride ourselves on building long-term customer relationships that are based on mutual respect and understanding. We have more than 200 branches across Australia, and in each and every one of them you’ll find us really getting to know our customers and recognising the things they need, rather than selling them things they don’t. It’s how we’ve been doing business since 1874.

We’ve created simple, easy-to-understand banking products to help support our customers’ financial needs.  We offer a range of these products and services to individuals, as well as businesses.

Technology is something we love to embrace, especially when it’s used to help our customers and get to know them better.

We’re one of the top 100 companies ranked by market capitalisation on the Australian Securities Exchange and are regulated by the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority as an Authorised Deposit-taking Institution.

But most importantly, every day, we work hard to prove that it’s possible to love a bank.
