BOQ Hackathon 2017: The Future of Fintech

Shoutout to all Developers. Designers. Marketers. Business Folk!

BOQ Fintech Hackathon is back and bigger than ever!

This is a call for you to get your FinTech idea off the ground with support from one of Australia's leading regional banks.

The BOQ Hackathon is your chance to collaborate and get involved with a group of motivated individuals passionate about disrupting the business banking and financial technology industries.

What can you expect?

The Friday will kick off with dinner & networking, followed by the official event start and idea pitches! Anyone is welcome to pitch an idea on the Friday night.

Teams organically form around the top ideas (by popular vote). Then, it’s a 52 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding/building, designing, and market validation.

Over the Saturday and Sunday there will be a number of top notch mentors including; legal experts, startup veterans/ entrepreneurs, marketing guru’s, IT specialists, Regulatory and Compliance advisors, and design professionals.

Masterclass education sessions will be run on both Saturday and Sunday that will showcase tips and tricks on Lean start up, business models, validation, and pitching.

The weekend wraps up with teams presenting their startup to a combination of some of BOQ’s influential leaders and local entrepreneurial experts, including Mark Sowerby (Qld Chief Entrepreneur, founder Blue Sky Funds).

The winners will be awarded some really awesome prizes from the likes of BOQ, their customers and local partners.

Food and drinks for the weekend will be provided as part of the weekend, including 7 meals (breakfasts, lunches, dinners) sourced from local businesses, as well as snacks, refreshments and COFFEE throughout the weekend.

What are you waiting for?

Start a company, find a co-founder, meet someone new, or learn a skill far outside your usual 9-to-5. You are guaranteed to leave the event better prepared to navigate the chaotic but fun world of startups. Put yourself in the shoes of an entrepreneur and register now.

Do I need to be a programmer?

Absolutely not! The most important part of the weekend is the idea generation, validation and customer development.

Refund Policy: No refunds will be granted within 7 days of the event if food and drink have already been ordered. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

About Bank of Queensland

BOQ is one of Australia’s leading regional banks. We’re also among the few still not owned by one of the big banks.

We pride ourselves on building long-term customer relationships that are based on mutual respect and understanding. We have more than 200 branches across Australia, and in each and every one of them you’ll find us really getting to know our customers and recognising the things they need, rather than selling them things they don’t. It’s how we’ve been doing business since 1874.

We’ve created simple, easy-to-understand banking products to help support our customers’ financial needs.  We offer a range of these products and services to individuals, as well as businesses.

Technology is something we love to embrace, especially when it’s used to help our customers and get to know them better.

We’re one of the top 100 companies ranked by market capitalisation on the Australian Securities Exchange and are regulated by the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority as an Authorised Deposit-taking Institution.

But most importantly, every day, we work hard to prove that it’s possible to love a bank.
