BP-Imperial Hackathon 2017
Theme:
Voice Activated Technology
Description:
More than 20% of Google searches on mobile devices are now conducted by voice. Voice activated technology, such as Amazon’s Alexa and Google Home, is fast-becoming mainstream. This increasingly acceptance – and reliance – on voice activated technology opens up a world of exciting opportunities. Can we drive a car using only our voice? Will our cars be able to tell from our tone of speech when we’re getting sleepy, and should pull over? Can we ask our cars to warn when an oil change is needed and recommend a local garage? Will mention of a family trip tomorrow over the dinner table result in our cars automatically receiving an itinerary of suggested fuel stops en route?
The BP-Imperial Hackathon, is an open hackathon, and will explore the potential ways BP can use voice activated technology to connect with their customers. Approximately ten multidisciplinary teams with brainstorm, innovate, prototype and develop ways for BP to use voice-activated technology.

Type of hackathon - Open Hackathon:
The BP-Imperial Hackathon is an ‘Open Hackathon’, that's great for you as your IP is yours but it does mean that some ground rules are required. Please, therefore, do not discuss or present any ideas you are not comfortable with BP or other participants having knowledge of. Although participants will own the IP of anything developed during the Hackathon, BP does have the right to use and continue to develop any ideas presented. You should not discuss or present any Imperial IP (including know-how) or confidential information that you may have access to through your research groups or from your supervisors, including information that is not in the public domain.
A general rule of thumb is please don’t reveal anything you wouldn’t reveal at a conference – and ask the ICAH team if you are unsure!
