BSC Partner Event: UpStart with Tanyella Evans + Echoing Green
Come to Echoing Green’s UpStart, hosted in partnership with Be Social Change on Thursday, May 25th at 7:00 p.m. Join a moderated conversation with Echoing Green Fellow Tanyella Evans on the role of technology as a tool for inclusive and quality education, the future of philanthropy and more.
Knowledge is a human right. But while the global illiteracy rate has fallen over the past decade, millions around the world–including 250 million children–remain unable to read and write. Part of the solution is to make it easier to get books into classrooms.
Today, 95 percent of the world’s population is covered by cellular networks, and access to mobile devices is increasing. Library for All, co-founded by Echoing Green Fellow Tanyella Evans, developed a low-cost digital library platform to bring ebooks and cloud-based libraries to communities in Haiti, DRC, Rwanda, Cambodia, and Mongolia – making Library For All well on its way to ensuring everyone has access to knowledge.

SPEAKER BIO
Tanyella Evans, Co-Founder & Chief Executive Officer, Library For All
Tanyella Evans is the Co-Founder and CEO at Library For All, a tech nonprofit that has built a cloud-based digital library and platform to make knowledge accessible to communities in the developing world. Tanyella has experience in social entrepreneurship and international development, through the lens of education and culture. Prior to Library For All, Tanyella lived and worked as a teacher in Uganda, and trained at the Campaign for Female Education in the UK. As Executive Director of Artists for Peace and Justice, Tanyella led a team to establish a school that is now serving over 2,000 students on the edge of one of the poorest slums in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. It was the search for a scalable solution to the lack of access to educational materials that led Tanyella to meet her co-founder Rebecca, and launch Library For All in 2012. Tanyella is a recipient of a United World College scholarship to Lester B. Pearson College, and graduated with a degree in Social and Political Sciences from the University of Cambridge in the UK.
