Climathon Glasgow – Developing Sustainable Food Systems

How can Glasgow develop a more sustainable, climate resilient and low carbon food system for its citizens?

2050 Climate Group and Glasgow City Council are joining forces on this exciting event which aims come up with solutions to this question in an innovative and stimulating way in the form of a "Climate Hackathon"-a "Climathon" if you will. This Climathon will be a form of creative problem solving at an event where people come together to come up with solutions to a defined problem.

Food systems are one of the largest global contributors to greenhouse gas emissions but equally are vulnerable to the impact of climate change. The food-related carbon footprint of a city is huge, from food production to packaging, transportation and consumption. Because of this, cities like Glasgow are contributing to our changing climate. There are many ways to reduce the impact of our food system, even small changes can have a positive effect locally and beyond.

Climate change and weather impacts in Scotland and elsewhere can also severely affect food distribution chains, with knock on impacts on availability and price of basic food staples. This will in turn impact disproportionately those most vulnerable in our society.

This Climathon event will explore this topic and give you the opportunity to take action on climate change and create grassroots solutions.

We are looking for people of all backgrounds and levels of knowledge - as long as you have enthusiasm to take part and contribute to with novel ideas that have the potential to become reality.
