Code Like a Girl: Adult Workshop - Intro to iOS App Development with Swift

    If you have ever wondered about how those apps on your phone are made, then this is the workshop for you.

    In this workshop, you will create, build and debug your very first iOS app in a programming language called Swift. Some of the topics you will learn include:

    • Creating a user interface

    • Running your app on your phone or mac

    • Debugging

    • User interactions such as swiping, scrolling and tapping

    • We will run you through the basics of programming so don’t worry if you have never coded before.

    DETAILS

    When: Saturday, June 16 2018, 10am - 2pm (registration opens at 9:45am)

    Where: One Roof, 77/79 City Rd, Southbank, VIC 3006

    Participants: Women, aged 16+

    Prerequisites: No prior experience of coding required but basic knowledge in programming concepts like control flows, logic operators and data types will come in handy

    Catering: Light snacks and water will be provided

    MATERIALS

    You'll need to:

    • bring a Mac laptop with administrator access to install software

    • have installed the latest update of Xcode from the App Store (this can take up to 4 hours to download)

    • have an Apple ID

    • have an iPhone/iPad (optional) with lightning cable

    • have a Github account (optional)

    Lauren Grimes

    Lead Facilitator

    In her last year at university and feeling undecided about what to do after graduation, Lauren chose one last elective: iOS Development. 5 years later and she is still working as an Android and iOS developer in Melbourne’s innovative tech community. She has worked on many diverse applications including those that utilise Machine Learning and Augmented Reality, which allow people to improve their everyday lives.

    Assistant Facilitator

    Nathalia is a junior front end developer for Deloitte Digital. She completed a double degree in Science (Honours) and Computer Science, compounding her love of all things science and tech. Not a stranger to danger (or hackathons), she’s hacked a number of award-winning prototypes together in the name of health science, female representation, autism awareness, and more to come. Her passions are helping people, solving interesting problems, and using technology on the daily.
