CoderDojo Field Trip - To See First Responders Hackathon

This month we are doing something extra special at a slightly different time and a very different place! At our normal dojo time, there is a group of devs all across the city getting together at Launch Fishers to make cool stuff for our first responders! For more info, check out their event page. We are gonna start things off by heading up there and talking to some of the groups to see what they're doing. Then, it's back to work making cool stuff of our own!

    **IMPORTANT NOTE:

    1) Please arrive as close to 11am as possible! Usually we love early birds but this month we need to be careful not to disturb the hackathon participants who will be working diligently around us.

    2) Please enter through the main entrance of the building (this is a change from what I said earlier), located underneath the awning on the right hand side when you are facing the building. Please do not use the south entrance or any other entrances you may be aware of.

    3) Get excited! We will be convening in the theater, which is located just inside the main entrance and then, we'll have a chance to interact with some real developers working on hackathon projects, before getting started for the day!

CoderDojo is a movement orientated around running free not-for-profit coding clubs and regular sessions for young people.

At a CoderDojo, young people learn how to code, develop websites, apps, programs, games and more. Dojos are set up, run by and taught at by volunteers. Dojos organise tours of technology companies, bring in guest speakers to talk about their career and what they do, and organise events. In addition to learning to code, members meet like minded people, show off what they’ve been working on and so on. CoderDojo makes development and learning to code a fun, sociable, awesome experience. CoderDojo also puts a strong emphasis on open source and free software, and has a strong network of members and volunteers globally.
