FAQ

What is a hackathon?

A hackathon is an event that brings together programmers and others involved in software development to work on a solution collaboratively, often in a context of a competition.

What exactly will my child be doing?

There will be a problem statement that the kids will try to solve in this hackathon. They will be working in groups, and each group will have members working in each of the spaces (builder, coder & designer).  After working on their ideas, each group will then make a short presentation.

Why should my child attend this hackathon?

This is a great opportunity for your child to experience what an actual hackathon is like, and have lots of fun making new friends, while developing leadership skills and teamwork.

Is this hackathon suitable for beginners?

Absolutely! Imagination and resolve are the only qualities required. We will be providing coaching and mentoring to get your child started in each of the spaces.

Is this a supervised event?

While there are facilitators around for most of the event, we would like parents to be a part of their child's learning journey.  Parents are welcome to join in the coaching sessions, though we will also provide the kids 'independent time' during the final ideation and build phases.
