DigiCatYorks Health Data Dive
An open data dive/hackathon organised by the Bradford BCS Student Chapter and hosted by The University of Bradford. Students and professionals from around Yorkshire (and beyond) are invited to come and develop a prototype using the health related open data sets provided. Prizes will be awarded for the best and most innovative prototypes on the day.
Datasets have kindly been provided by HSCIC.
The challenge:
It is important to develop tools for measuring the level of isolation among communities and individuals and also identifying potential groups that could be at risk of becoming socially isolated or excluded.
Two important data sources are made available by the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC), which are:
- The Personal Social Services Adult Social Care Survey (http://www.hscic.gov.uk/pubs/adusoccaresurv1415) contains the result and raw data from this biannual survey of social care users. This is a survey covering many aspects of user experience, including social isolation, quality of life and environment and levels of control. The CSV file contains the raw data and the data dictionary file lists the questions that were asked.
- The Measures from the Adult Social Care Outcomes Framework (http://www.hscic.gov.uk/pubs/aduscoccareof1415fin) details a series of indicators that are produced from a variety of social services data sources, and look at various themes including the rate of employment, living without support and delayed transfers from hospital.
The purpose of this contest is to develop data analytics tools for processing these data sets to:
- Highlight attributes/factors that could be used for identifying groups/individuals that are socially isolated or excluded.
- Use previous findings to draw map(s) showing the extent of problem in Yorkshire compared to UK
Participating teams will get the chance to present their solutions to a panel of judges.
Representatives from various organisations including BCS and The Digital Catapult Center Yorkshire will be present as judges for the event.
Free food and drink will be provided at the venue.
