Dublin Hacks 2.0: DAQRI Smart Helmet Hackathon

Organized by

Build the Future of Work with DAQRI Smart Helmet This one-of-a-kind event brings together developers, designers, and industrial experts to imagine use cases and build apps for the world’s most advanced augmented reality wearable: the DAQRI Smart Helmet. Learn from globally recnognized hardware and software experts and build apps for the industrial use cases the DAQRI Smart Helmet was made for. Join a team, collaborate, prototype and win prizes: together we are creating the Future of Work.   The Event  This summer, we launched our first-ever DAQRI Smart Helmet Hackathon. It was an awesome experience for both our product teams the the community, so we’ve decided to do it again. Our goal is to expand the global community that is empowered to make applications for this unparalleled platform, and also to share the continuous advances being made in all aspects of our work.  If you want to experience the world’s first wearable Human Machine Interface and build apps for the most sophisticated display and sensor hardware for augmented reality, this event is for you.   Agenda DAQRI Smart Helmet is powerd by next generation computer vision, has an industrial grade IMU, HD 3D depth sensor, and thermal camera and is controlled via gaze tracking and voice recogntion. At this Hackathon, you’ll learn hands-on about its open source enabling technology, sensors, development platform, SDK and APIs so you can build apps for the Future of Work.    Friday October 30th:   5:30pm – 6:00pm: DAQRI Smart Helmet Demonstrations, Networking & Snacks 6:00pm – 6:30pm: Learning How Augmented Reality Works at Work – Gaia Dempsey, Managing Director, DAQRI International 6:30pm – 7:30pm – From Zero To App In 60 Minutes, Rob Quigley, Solutions Development Lead, DAQRI 7:00 – 7:30pm: Participant 60 Second App Pitches 7:30-8:00pm: Form Teams, Mentors Assigned 8:00-9:00pm: Demos Re-Open 9:00-12:00am: Space Remains Open for Teams  Saturday October 31st:    9:00am – 9:30am: Coffee and Networking 9:30am –10:00am: Incorporating Computer Vision and Visual Inertial Navigation into Your App, Philip Lamb, Chief Open Source Architect, DAQRI 10:00am – 10:30am: Working with Melon, the Wearable EEG Brain Computer Interface, Dr. Stefanie Hutka, Neuroscientist, DAQRI 10:30am –11:00am:  The Evolution of Three.js, the Open Source 3D Rendering Engine for Augmented Reality – Jerome Etienne, Lead Developer, DAQRI 11:00am – 11:30am: Sensors, Computer Vision, and Augmented Reality, David Moloney, Founder & CTO, Movidius 11:30am – 1:00pm: Work in Teams 1:00pm-2:00pm: Lunch 2:00pm-7:00pm: Work in Teams 7:00-8:30pm: Team Pitch Coaching 8:30-12:00am: Space Remains Open for Teams  Sunday November 1st:    9:00am – 9:30am: Coffee and Networking 9:30am – 10:00am: Contextual Data Visualisation with Wearable Augmented Reality – Stephen Keegan, Engineering Manager, DAQRI 10:00am – 10:30am: Augmented Reality UI Revealed, Andrea De Carolis, Senior Developer, and Raul Portales, Senior Developer, DAQRI 10:30am –1:00pm: Work in Teams 1:00pm – 2:00pm: Lunch 2:00pm – 5:00pm: Work in Teams 5:00 – 6:00pm: Finger Food & Drinks 6:00 – 7:00pm: Team Presentations to Panel of Judges 7:00 – 7:30: Closing Thoughts: Where Are Augmented Reality Wearables Going? – Phil Greenhalgh, R&D Director, DAQRI Labs 7:30-8:00pm: Judges Review & Prizes Awarded to Winners    What To Expect   The Atmosphere Hackathons are full of energy because they offer a chance to engage in the thrilling challenge of rapidly brainstorming, validating and prototyping new ideas. You’ll meet smart, creative people and stretch your brain making amazing things together. There will be delicious food & drink, fun hardware prizes, and great opportuntities to meet with technical mentors and other developers interested in augmented reality hardware and software.  The Experience As a participant, you’ll have the opportunity to learn from expert presentations, pitch ideas, form teams, get support from expert mentors, and immediately put to work the new SDKs, functions, and APIs you’ve learned. Each team will have a dedicated DAQRI mentor to help connect you with the right resources, as well as listen to your feedback about and ideas about how to improve the developer experience. Senior DAQRI technical leadership will be in attendance and looking for great developers, designers, sales leaders, and industrial experts interested in job opportunities in the augmented reality space. Ground Rules  You don’t need to attend with a team – in fact we expect that most people will meet and form teams the day of the event. Teams should be made up of 6 people or less. To make it fair to everyone, pre-formed teams that do plan to attend together must register as a group ahead of time. There will be a dedicated section of the competition with separate prizes for this group. Entries will be submitted for consideration through your team’s presentation on the final day of the Hackathon. Judges will also be walking around during throughout the event and you are encouraged to tell them about your project. Entries will be evaluated based on the following criteria: Value and utility of the chosen use case Potential for real-world implementation and adoption Originality in concept and approach Completeness of prototype/mockup/demo Come prepared to learn, collaborate, and have fun!
